About KEA
The Structure and Design
of the Conference
A
small gathering of economists, research scholars,
professors, professionals and policy planners met at
Canara Bank Conference Hall, Thiruvananthapuram on 21
July 2013 and decided to form a forum for discussing economic
issues and public policy matters, which will have farreaching
implications for the development of the polity, society and
economy of Kerala. As an outcome of this serious deliberations,
the group stressed the need for a common and inclusive platform,
which accommodates, researchers, professionals, practitioners,
teachers and research scholars of economics in Kerala.
The three day conference focuses on the basic theme of
‘Migration, Development and Society’. The demographic
transition which is well underway in Kerala is a unique
experience whose wide ranging implications need deeper
study and investigation. It is only relevant to revisit Kerala’s
development experience on a wider canvass.
The conference is another milestone in Kerala’s
development trajectory.
Kerala Economic Association successfully conducted its first
annual conference in May 2015 at S.H. College, Thevara. In
addition to the annual conference KEA conducted a series of
programmes during the last year. A select list of the programmes
is given below.
&
Sub themes include:
1. Prof. Salley Wallace delivered a lecture on Behavioural Economics
in Public Finance in July 2015 at the Senate Chamber, University of
Kerala.

Society (TIES)
3. One Day Seminar on: World Development Report 2015 titled Mind
society and Behaviour in August 2015 at Government Guest House
Thycadu in association with Department of Economics Government
Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram. Prof. M. A. Oommen presented
the theme paper which was latter carried in the EPW.
4. One Day Workshop on How to write effective Research Papers for
Conferences and Journals, September 2015 at the Department of
Economics, Cochin College, Kochi.
5.Hon’ble Governor Justice P. Sathasivam honoured Prof. M.A.

and Democracy” honouring Professor M A Oommen and conducted a
National Seminar, October 2015.
6. National Seminar at Cochin College: “Community Participation in
Development Initiatives-Contemporary Experiences and Challenges”,
December 2015.
Now it has more than 500 life members. We are overwhelmed by
the response to take the second annual conference forward. Prof.
Sukhedo Thorat, Chairman ICSSR and President of the Indian
Economic Association has agreed to inaugurate the Conference.
We intend to invite eminent economists, policy makers, ministers
of the union and the state.
We need to seek the whole hearted cooperation and association
of business enterprises, industrial concerns, bankers and trade
unions in Kerala for the successful conduct of this Conference.
