CHAIRMAN’S REPORT: I have been out and about watching matches for the last two weeks this week I was shocked to see a manager walk past the referee at half time with a box of oranges to give to his players and ignore the referee surely the first person to go to should be the referee after all he has been running around the same as the players, managers please look after the referee on the day. Vic 5. SECRETARY’S REPORT: Thankfully we now seem to be catching up on our cup fixtures but games are still subject to alteration on a weekly basis in some age groups. Managers should not assume they have no game unless confirmed by the relevant age group fixture secretary. In some of the divisions the fixtures are now all re-arranged from those originally set in the booklet and it is not always possible to maintain the pitch sharing patterns across age groups. On a number of occasions, in the last few weeks, it has come to light that some clubs are not overseeing their own fixtures. This has resulted in double booked venues, one of which did not come to light until the Sunday morning when 4 teams arrived on one pitch. Thanks to our colleagues in the MMSFL this fixture did go ahead but it is not the responsibility of League officials to monitor individual clubs fixtures. If identified to us in good time we can usually organise an alternative pitch/kick off time etc. but it may also be necessary to implement Rule 10(o) with a fixture being played on the opponents ground. In the case of Medway Council pitches I issued all club secretaries with letters confirming their pitch sharing arrangements with details of the teams they share with, unfortunately a few within another club. Teams should not use any other pitch without checking with me in advance as per the conditions of hire. I am pleased to have seen some excellent and complimentary reports from referees or opponents lately. I must mention Rainham Kenilworth and Woodcoombe Youth U/15s who demonstrated a sporting yet closely fought and competitive fixture when I attended recently. I found both sets of players, spectators and management to be a credit to their clubs and are exactly what I want the MMYL to be about. I must also record thanks to referee, Steve McManus. In contrast, I despair at the number of reports made to the County every week and urge clubs currently experiencing disciplinary problems to revisit the Respect Programme now being promoted as ‘joining Respect F.C’. Maria Under 9, U/10 & U/11 Fixture Secretary I will continue to issue re-arranged games for all Sundays so please look out for the lists which will be weekly in some age groups until after cup rounds are complete. If any teams have a pitch available and mutually agree to play on a Saturday please let me know. If any teams would like to play on 20th February, the scheduled free week, also let me know. Thanks – Jim Under 12 Secretary Fixtures have been issued to clubs up until 27/2/11 incl. Nothing else to report. Colin Under 13 Secretary Nothing to report Under 14 Secretary Fixtures will now be coming out on a weekly basis due to the winter mess up. If you are available to play on half term week (20-02-11) Please let me know a.s.a.p and I will try and arrange a game. There will be league fixtures on Quarter finals day as well. Good luck to quarter finalists. Chris Morris Under 15 & U/16 Secretary Well done to those who have made it through to the next round of the cups As fixtures are now back on track please be aware that there is no free week so check with your club secretary .As both age groups are now way behind for some double headers are inevitable unless you are and your opponents agree able to play on a Saturday providing a pitch is available and a league appointed referee but check with me first. I cannot make any team play on a Saturday .I have also sent a email to clubs asking if anyone willing to play on the 20th February but so far got little response. Under 18 Secretary I went and watched a couple of games over the weekend as I have not been out and about lately. I must say the player from both games and supporters were excellent. I am hoping to get round to more games before the end of the season. Thank you for all taking notice from the last lot of minutes regarding sending emails through my NHS mail this is the best way to get me as I have it open all day long at work and also check it at home as well. Michele 8. TREASURER’S REPORT: Nothing to report 9. REFEREES SECRETARY’S REPORT: A number of gripes this month, some of which have been niggling me for sometime. All clubs with a referee appointed by me, be it in advance or by telephone/e-mail in the week before the game, must telephone the referee to confirm the details of the fixture by 9 pm, on the Tuesday before the game, or as soon as details of the referee are made known to them, where it is a late appointment. There have been a lot of instances recently where this has not happened. Referees should report on their match card (available on league website) where this has not happened and fines will be issued. On the other hand, where a referee cannot fulfil an appointment, the referee must advise both the home club and myself at the earliest opportunity. The only exception to this is where you have just received a new list of advance fixtures, when you should only contact myself as there is a good chance the club will not have received their copy of the fixtures. A change may then be possible before they are issued to the clubs. Clubs must not approach referees on the league referees list to referee their games. The list is provided for contact numbers only. If you need a referee, you must ring me and I will do my best to arrange one. I am the only person who can see the whole picture and know the limitations in availability and travel regarding all the referees. When you ring me for a referee, the information I will need is: Your name/telephone number/club/age group/home team/away team/ko/ground. You would be surprised how many people leave out at least 50% of this information. I also expect you to say if you are not going to be available for me to ring you back during the next 24 hours to give you the details. Guidance for ringing for referees: Ring me on Monday, preferably before 2000, and leave a message if I do not answer. I will get back to you on Tuesday or earlier. If you ring on Tuesday, you have less chance of getting one but I will ring you back either way by Thursday. Ring on Wednesday and you have half a chance and I will ring you by Thursday. After that it is in the lap of the gods but don’t let that stop you trying as it is always possible I may have had a cancellation. Finally can I remind people to use the e-mail address in the LEAGUE handbook and not my personal one in the County handbook. I do not monitor the latter every day so messages to that account may go unheeded. 10. RESULTS SECRETARY’S/WEBMASTER’S REPORT: Nothing to report 11. DISCIPLINE OFFICER’S REPORT: January has been a relatively quiet month for referees issuing cards, although I have still seen a couple of the ‘regulars’ names appearing. Can I please remind clubs that this league supports the RESPECT campaign and that at least a line of cones is expected on the side of the pitch where the parents stand and that both sets of coaches, along with any subs (home and away) are on the other side and that the subs are not standing on the sideline without their kit being covered. I have been out to a few games this month with no RESPECT barrier, apart from anything else it makes the linesman’s job very difficult. Once again have received some good reports that I have included here, thanks to those who take the trouble. 9th January Cliffe Royals v Lordswood Youth Tigers U16’s from Referee Mick James Excellent, well played to both teams Eagles v Cobham Colts U12’sfrom referee Simon Dale Both sides played impeccably and I think I only had to blow up for one foul!! Oak Athletic v Cobham Colts u16 from referee Brian Templeman Both Teams were competitive but Sporting the Management and Supporters also showed respect towards me, and both Captains controlled their players well 16th January Oak Athletic v Rainham Eagles Under 15’s from referee Mick James Well done Rainham, Congrats to Oak for competing to the end. 23rd January Rainham Eagles V Thamesview Youth Under 15’s from referee B Templeman The behaviour of the Team Managers and Supporters was excellent Istead Utd V Borstal Under 16 from referee Vic SmithCaptains of both teams should be applauded for the way they conducted themselves 30th January From Referee Steve Pumfrett Wigmore v Milton and Fulston U16’s A pleasure to referee. First foul not committed until 16th minute and then very few afterwards. Both teams played decent football in a very competitive manner but without a hint of unnecessary aggression and the need for a poor challenge. Both teams should be congratulated on their performance as should both sets of management and spectators. 12. CUP COMMITTEE: Unfortunately an error was identified in the U/11 cup template. Another draw was necessary and took place prior to this meeting. Clubs involved were notified and invited to attend. Guy Foreman from Borstal 88 observed the draw. Due to teams withdrawing from the League Strood 87 U/14 have a walkover to the John Leeds Trophy quarter finals, Borstal 88 U/15 to the John Leeds Trophy quarter finals and Teynham Gunners U/18 to the John Leeds Trophy semi finals. The draw for the semi finals will take place before the next Committee meeting. 2 persons max per club may attend. Please let Andy Bonneywell 01634 780092 or e-mail [email protected] if you would like to observe. 13. PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER’S REPORT: Nothing to report 14. LEAGUE WELFARE OFFICER’S REPORT: Please remember that children under age 18 should not be used as assistant referees unless they are a registered qualified referee or a trainee referee as per Rule 13n). The meeting closed at 7.55 p.m.. The next MMYL Committee meeting will take place on Wednesday, 2nd March 2011 at 7.30 p.m..
