The Children's Museum of the Brazos Valley School Group Visit Policy 1. Groups may schedule visits to the Museum on Monday - Friday. 2. Groups must schedule visits 3 weeks in advance and may schedule 2 hour time blocks beginning at 9 am and ending at 3pm. The Group Visit Policy Form (found at the end of this document) must be returned at least one week prior to the visit. 3. The Museum offers a discounted rate of $4.00 per child for school groups containing 10 children or more. There will be no charge for the first 15 chaperones. Each additional chaperone and siblings must pay the regular admission price. There is no charge for teachers. Membership cards, coupons, and other discounts do not apply to school group admission. 4. Children must be supervised at all times and cannot be left unattended. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. 5. The adult chaperones to child ratio must be no less than 1 adult per 10 children. 6. Groups with more than 80 children will be divided into two groups. Please read below and figure out your groupings before arriving at the museum. Groups containing 41-80 children will be divided into equal groups (Group A & Group B.) While Group A is enjoying “free play”, Group B will be experiencing a special TEKS related program of teacher’s choice. The two groups will then alternate. Each group will have one hour for each activity. Depending on the number of children scheduled to attend, the Director of Education will let you know how many groups will be needed. See attachment for available programs. Groups of 80+ are required to be split into two different trips. CMBV will work with the teacher to coordinate a time that is works best for everyone. 7. Special TEKS related programs are available for groups with 40 students or fewer. Please see attachment for available programs and contact the Director of Education for additional information. Small fees apply for programs. (For groups with 40 children or fewer, programs are an optional $40.00) 8. The Children's Museum of the Brazos Valley offers several levels of play; however, children play at their own risk. 9. Groups must read, sign, and return policies at least one week before their scheduled visit. 10. The Children's Museum will be contacting you one week prior to your scheduled visit to confirm your reservation. Revised: 02-04-15 Suggestions for a FUN and safe visit For you—the teacher: Preview the Museum before your visit to learn about the educational opportunities for your children. We are an educational institution, not a playground. Please utilize educational opportunities by engaging children in hands-on discovery learning opportunities. If you cannot make a personal visit, please refer to our teacher’s corner on our website www.cmbv.org for more information. Including: available programs, TEKS, and lesson ideas to accompany your visit. If your school will be splitting into different groups, please pre-plan to divide them amongst your chaperones. This will save you time and stress before your visit. Each child should be identifiable to your group. I.E. name tag, t-shirt, etc. Please discuss the expectations and guidelines of the Museum with your students and chaperones before visiting the Museum. Remember that students must be chaperoned at all times. For your students: Remember to use your inside voices and walking feet at all times in the Museum. Please stay with your chaperone at all times. Leave all backpacks, lunches, jackets, or other things on the bus, the Museum is not responsible for lost items. Please help the Museum and our other visitors by cleaning up after yourselves. For your chaperones: Adult supervision is needed to monitor and maintain the good behavior of your students and to help facilitate their learning. Please stay with children at all times. Get involved! Put your hands on exhibits and see how they work. Watching you play with an exhibit often encourages children to do the same. Facilitate the learning process by asking open-ended questions, encourage children to work together to problem solve. Encourage students to put their items back when they are finished and before they move to another area. To help keep focused on the children, please refrain from using technology devices while at the Museum, i.e. cell phones, hand held music players, etc. Revised: 02-04-15 The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley Group Visit Policy Form I, _________________________________________________ acting as the First Middle Last main contact and chaperone for my group, ______________________________, am School or group scheduled to visit The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley on _________________________________________________ Month, date, year understand and agree to the following: That The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley will not be held liable for injuries sustained by me or my group.
