Introduction
-“We are going to put all of our volleyball skills into a variety of fun and

-Ask the students what they have learned so far in throughout this unit.
-Due to this being the first time observing physical education class with
the grade 3’s, it is important to ask the students what they already

know before starting.
-Also, by asking Mrs. Zook, I can gain a general understanding of where
they stand.
-Get students to answer by putting up their hands, and if there is a lack
of participation, as more specific questions (ex. Have you learned how
to set the ball? Do you guys know how to underhand serve? Etc.)
-Students will follow teacher’s instructions.
-Students will stay focused and will participate in the learning activities.
-Students will participate in two volleyball based activities while taking on
roles, playing cooperatively, and practicing receiving, retaining, and
sending skills.
-Students will gain knowledge and confidence of a variety of volleyball
skills.
1. Warm up
2. Beach ball volleyball
3. Fukuhara
4. Cool down
Sponge = Dead fish
-Explain to the students that we are going to start our class by warming
up with a tag game
-On-site supervision
-Have students assist in setting up and taking down nets.
-Students should not climb nets or anything assisting the net
-Ball should be appropriate for age and ability of students.
Body
Warm Up (Line Tag) (LO2)
-Explain the rules:
-You must stay on the line at all times.
-If the it person (who is on a line on the floor as well) tags you,
you become a rock and you sit on the line right where you are
tagged. This is a way of trapping you.
-Only the “it” person can step over the rock. Others cannot,
therefore they need to run and try not to trap themselves.
-The purpose of the game is to get all students turned into rocks. Try
your hardest to stay on the lines.
-Pick one person to be it, and get the game started. If it is too hard, make
one or more other students it at the same time.
-Observe the students as they play this tag game. Look to see if they are
playing by the rules and expectations of the game.
-They will be using individual manipulative skills while running
throughout the gym. (LO 2).
Beach Volleyball (LO 1, 2, 3)
-Review the rules or volleyball and changing positions.
-Get students split into two teams with subs.
-Explain that we are going to use a beach ball to make it easier for them
to keep control of the ball because it will fall to the ground at a slower
rate.
-Explain that they may have played volleyball before by holding the ball
and focusing on the concept of getting 3 plays.
-But in this game they want to focus on direct passing back and forth,
but remember to try and include 3 passes as well.
-Explain the importance of communication during team sports and have
them focus on calling mine and classmates names that they may be
passing to.
-Explain some safety guidelines.
-Observe students communication skills throughout this drill (LO 1).
-Observe if students are performing their manipulative skills while
executing receiving and passing of the beach ball. They will also be

taking on roles (server, passers, players verse subs, etc.) (LO 1, 2, 3)
Fukuhara (LO 1, 2, 3, 4)
-A regular volleyball is used for this activity.
-Explain the rules:
-This game is played underneath the volleyball net as a way of
trying something new.
-Have the students make a fist. This will be their way of passing.
-Rotation, serving, and 3 passes will still remain the objectives,
but they will do it while the ball is rolling on the ground.
-This is an introduction to diving in volleyball. Having the ball
glide fast across the floor will make them want to dive and reach
far for the ball as it passes by them.
-How to know when to rotate: when the ball goes out o bounds.
-Reinforce the concept of communication and how it is important so
that students don’t run into each other when going for the same ball.
-Explain some safety guidelines.
-Observe to see if students are using proper manipulative skills when
receiving, retaining, and passing the ball.
-Obersve for effective communication skills
-Observe students to see if they are taking on proper positions (roles) in
the game
(LO 1, 2, 3, 4)
Closure
Dead Fish
-Explain to students that we are going to practice out serving skills.
-Place hula hoops on both sides of the net.
-Explain the rules:
-There will be students both sides of the net (using two or three
different courts).
-They will be serving the ball and practicing their aim by trying to get
the ball to land in one of the hoops.
-They will pick up balls coming in their direction and continue to serve.
-If they hit a target they can try hitting a different target on the court.
Cool down
-Have the students sit in a circle and lead static stretches for them to
follow.
-While they are stretching, ask them what they learned today (based on
them raising their hands to answer questions).
-Review the key concepts from the lesson: communication, 3 pass rule,
rotation overview.
-Ask the students if they had fun today and thought that the new games
were fun to play.
-Ask if they enjoyed having me teach my first lesson by giving thumbs
up, in the middle, or down.
-Feedback will be given throughout the activities. Positive feedback and
constructive feedback so that students can improve on their volleyball
skills.
-Give each student a high five as they leave the gym.
