2:10 43 103,363 There’s a story behind every number. Partners Worldwide Impact Report 2015 There’s power in numbers, but they don’t tell the whole story. 2:10 At Partners Worldwide, we have impacted more lives and families than our metrics will ever tell. Our mission goes beyond numbers because what really matters are the stories of the businesses and people we help to move themselves out of poverty. And underlying all of that is God’s story, which is still being written through us as we live out his calling for restoration and wholeness of the world. Jesus gave us the mandate to go and serve the poor, and Paul elaborates in Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” We have heard this calling to use business as the way to end poverty and by adhering to it, we are contributing to the bigger story, God’s story. Together, we have been able to reach milestones this past fiscal year and touch the lives of many across the globe. The fight against poverty is a tough one, but with your support, our faith, and God’s grace, we have had more impact than we could imagine and we are confident we will continue to impact communities around the world. Mayra is a gastronomy student at a vocational high school in Cuenca, Ecuador. She attended a business seminar led by our LCI Cuenca Partners to further her business skills before graduating from the high school in one year. A business relationship creates a path to a Christ relationship. We reached a milestone this year—over 100,000 jobs created and sustained. These jobs impacted individuals, families, and communities, and come from our partners who believe in business as a means to end poverty and as a calling from God. Chandranathan Nixon’s company, Nick International, is part of our Local Community Institution (LCI) partner Hope for the Nation in Colombo, Sri Lanka. His company has grown more than he imagined during the last few years, now with over 175 staff in 9 branches, employing young people in 6 cities with plans to expand to 12 cities and 200 staff. At the same time, Nixon has been intentional in how he shares Christ with his colleagues. And now as a partner of Partners Worldwide since we expanded into Sri Lanka, Nixon shares our bold vision and is creating and sustaining jobs, impacting families and his community. A young man living in Colombo named Asokan (pictured right) has felt this impact firsthand. Asokan was a troubled man and while at Nick International, Nixon shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with him and continued to pray for Asokan even after he left the company. Two years later, Asokan found his way back, having accepted the Lord as his Savior. He is a manager supervising 4 branches with 60 staff members, and a close brother in Christ to Nixon. Asokan now has a steady job to provide for his family, better his community, and continue to follow the path God has created for him. Chandranathan Nixon, owner of Nick International, is creating jobs in Sri Lanka and impacting his community by viewing business as a calling from God. 103,363 Grafco’s got milk. 11,470,656 Lives, communities, and economies have been changed in 2015 in the 27 countries we work, through over $11 million in loans disbursed and with 10,811 graduates of our business training. These are outstanding numbers, but what really makes a difference is the impact on families and communities. In the rural village of Kinari, about 45 minutes northwest of Kenya’s bustling capital of Nairobi, our LCI Grafco operates their dairy value chain. This program empowers small-scale dairy farmers, like Peter (pictured on the cover) and Loise Gathiru. With the help of Partners Worldwide and Grafco, the couple has been able to get a series of small loans, professional dairy farm training, and acquire quality, affordable feed for their cows. All of these things combined have allowed Peter and Loise to go from producing a total of 5 liters of milk per day from 2 dairy cows to 14 liters per day. And through the Grafco dairy value chain, they are now able to get a fair price for their milk. The impact goes beyond their farm, though. Because of their higher income, Peter and Loise are now able to send their youngest son (pictured left) back to high school after he had to drop out to help on the farm. They also eat a more balanced diet than before because now they can regularly purchase meat, beans, bread, and a variety of fresh produce. This not only improves their own health, but also betters the local economy and other farmers, creating a flourishing community. Peter and Loise’s cows went from producing 5 liters of milk a day to 14 liters. This increase has improved more than just their lives, it has impacted the local economy and other farmers. Every dollar makes a difference. We’re doing every possible thing to put as many dollars we can into the programs you faithfully support, and that’s why we consistently get high marks from Charity Navigator and Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. Every dollar makes a difference, and for that, we are truly grateful for all our donors and supporters. 1 FINANCIAL SUMMARY 2015 REVENUE 1. Individuals & Businesses 3 2 1 EXPENSES 5,036,701 1. Engagement & Fundraising (9%) Gap Report 82 43 As an international organization located in North America, we can’t ignore our own communities. This doesn’t mean our work here is any easier—we have gone through trial and error and learned many lessons while working in our own backyard. Last year in the US, we had 8 Local Community Institutions (LCI) and only 2 Business Affiliate (BA) teams. Our goal is to have an equal number of BA teams to LCIs, so there was a gap not only in numbers, but a risk in the LCIs being able to flourish as well. With patience, diligence, and God’s guidance, we now have 6 new BA teams that are right for their partnerships, and see a bright future ahead. These partners have added to our global network of God-loving servants who are committed to learning and growing. Let us explain the make-up of a volunteer BA team in our partnership model. A Business Affiliate team is comprised of experienced businesspeople deeply committed to assisting an LCI by helping to develop concrete plans, share expertise, provide financial support, and encourage, coach, and mentor the business members of the local institution. In the midst of this growth in North America, we recognize there is still a gap between our LCI partnerships and BA volunteer teams across our 5 regions. We have grown to partner with 82 LCIs and 220 global volunteers, but only 43 of the LCIs have BA teams. This leaves us with a gap of 39 teams still needed. For more information about this opportunity, contact us at [email protected]. Paul is a new BA for Restorers, an LCI in Grand Rapids, MI. Restorers is a community-based organization with a mission to show Christ’s love by promoting long-term sustainable change in families and neighborhoods. Sowing seeds for 2020. Vision 2020 is a plan to multiply our impact, strategically and fearlessly. It is a plan built on Isaiah 65: 20-22: “No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands.” This plan is in action and working through our four directions: Global By Design, Expand Partnership Models & Geographies, Lead Positive Community Impact, and Advocate Intentionally. We would like to highlight the growth we have seen for Vision 2020 through the Expand Partnership Models & Geographies direction, with new expansion in our growing countries that have us looking toward a bright future. We are expanding geographies with a new LCI in the Philippines. CCT Credit Cooperative is a sub-ministry of Center for Community Transformation (CCT), an organized Christian response against poverty and social injustice. It serves urban and rural poor communities throughout the Philippines and over 51,000 micro and small business entrepreneurs. With this new partnership, we can help the families of children, like this little one to the left, lift themselves out of poverty and prepare future generations to continue to live out of poverty and create growing economies. Rambutan fruit is grown and marketed in the Philippines, a region that we have expanded into this past year with our new LCI, CCT Credit Cooperative. 2020 A common end in sight. 1 We have one unifying goal: to end poverty so that all may have life and have it abundantly. It’s the goal all of our partnerships have in mind and the goal we’re all working together to accomplish. God has given us the resources and skills we need to pursue a world without poverty using business. Through His calling, we are confident in the future and know that His will be done. We are thankful for all our faithful supporters, partners, and friends who are standing by our side in the fight against poverty. With a strong network and a proven model, we are confident that together we can make the seemingly impossible, possible.
