NOTION TAG | Embroidery Party Contest | 1 MATERIALS LIST Notion Tags: Two 6” x 6” base fabric One 6” x 6” additional appliqué Tear-away Stabilizer 10” of ½” elastic Any extra embellishments Embroidery thread to coordinate with design In Your Sewing Room ⊲⊲ ⊲⊲ ⊲⊲ ⊲⊲ Embroidery machine, power cord Embroidery hoop USB stick Sewing machine feet: embroidery foot Notions ⊲⊲ ⊲⊲ ⊲⊲ Scissors Tape Embroidery needle, size 75/11 Since this collection has many files with different sizes of appliqué and folded fabric for each one, we cannot provide the exact amounts needed above. The easiest way to measure your fabric before stitching any one of these designs is to measure the placement stitches as you go, and cut accordingly. NOTION TAG | Embroidery Party Contest | 2 STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS A B First, you’ll want to pre-cut some stiffener to give your Tag a bit more structure. Use the templates provided at the end of this tutorial. Trace the template onto stiffener. Cut the stiffener into the Tag’s shape. Set the stiffener aside for a later step. Start by hooping a piece of tear-away stabilizer. Stitch step 1 of the design. This is the placement stitch for the base fabric. C D Place the piece of base fabric over the placement stitch so it completely covers the placement stitches. Stitch step 2 of the design. This is the tacking stitch and it will secure the fabric to the stabilizer. There is an extra tack down stitch if you would like to add a second fabric or use our confetti technique. You can skip this step if you don’t plan to add confetti or a secondary fabric. Note: You can use tape to hold it in position if you like. E F If you want to add lettering, do so before the next steps. You can add letters directly on your machine or you can pull the design into a software to add them. Whichever you prefer will work, just be sure to stitch the lettering before you add the back fabrics. Remove the hoop from the machine and place it face down on a flat surface. Fold your elastic in half and center along the top edge, with the edge at least ½” inside the placement line. Use tape to hold it in place. NOTION TAG | Embroidery Party Contest | 3 STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS G H Lay your precut stiffener so it is just to the inside of the placement stitch on the back of the hoop. You will need to use spray adhesive to attach it to the back. Lay your back fabric right-side up so that it completely covers the placement stitch. You will need to use spray adhesive or tape to attach it to the back. I J The next step of the design is a tacking stitch and secures your back fabric to the stabilizer. Use scissors to carefully trim the back fabric as close to the tacking stitches as possible. Note: Be sure not to cut the elastic! K L Carefully trim the front fabric as close to the stitches as possible. This is the final step and is very important. You need to wind your bobbin to match your top thread. Note: Please see your machine manual for help on winding a bobbin. NOTION TAG | Embroidery Party Contest | 4 STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS M O Once the wound bobbin is in the machine, return your hoop to the machine and embroider the last step of the design. Your finished Notion Tag should look something like this. Carefully tear-away the excess stabilizer. These are great for tagging anything, like your sewing tote or even your notions! N You can now add your tag to anything you wish to label, like your sewing machine!
