Game Plan for Greatness
Teachers are coaches who have
the substantial task of showing
our students how to tackle the
game of life. Instilling in them a
positive winning attitude
regardless of the circumstances
is a game changer!
Harrisburg Elementary is a special place where the extraordinary
happens! A place where every individual is committed to success
and winning at the game of life. We are blazing a path for the
future by removing any obstacle that would hinder the greatness of
our students. A path that will allow our students to become
whatever they dream or aspire to be.
Just as with any game or sport competition, the likelihood of
achieving and sustaining desired success will only be acquired by
the implementation of and adherence to a strategic game plan that
outlines the methods, plays, and actions to be consistently utilized.
The Harrisburg Elementary Game Plan for Greatness is sustained by
five strategic plays:
Strategic Play 1: We will be a positive energy
school.
Our school will be a place where students experience positive
people with positive attitudes. We embrace the ideology that
enthusiasm is contagious. We will take advantage of every
opportunity to generate a positive climate through our words, our
actions, and our smiles. Problems and challenges will be viewed as
opportunities to learn and grow. Even in the face of adversity we
will choose to stay positive and optimistic. We embrace the power

of teaching not only through our words and principles but through
our lifestyles. Teachers are coaches who have the substantial task

is a game changer! Positive school cultures produce positive
students and positive students produce positive adults!
Strategic Play 2: We will focus on unleashing every
student’s potential.
We know that all our students have unlimited potential. We believe
that by focusing on what a child can become we release them
from any limitation they may currently possess. We will place
heavy emphasis on unleashing every student’s leadership potential.
Leadership is simply influence and all students have a circle of
people in which they influence. We want to show them by
embracing leadership they can be an example of what other
students can become. This belief not only exposes them to
greatness but allows them to see the profound impact they can
have in the lives of others in their home, school, and community.
By unleashing each student’s potential, we are enabling the child to
be the very best they can be academically, socially, and emotionally.
Strategic Play 3: We will endlessly pursue academic
excellence.

Our students will be exposed to standards based instruction that
utilizes best practice instructional strategies to facilitate learning.
Our school will implement a framework for learning that allows all
students to achieve their highest academic potential. Teacher
directed interventions and appropriate instructional technology
will provide differentiation so students will be met at their level
and progress at their pace. We will incorporate project based
learning so students can create and access higher levels of thinking.
Our school promotes balanced literacy which gives teachers the
ability to progress monitor all students through small group work
and individual conferencing regularly. Our math instruction will
also focus on presenting students with new mathematical concepts
yet strategically supply students with the opportunity for daily
math practice. All core academic subjects and related arts will
incorporate various modalities of learning, multiple intelligences,
and take into consideration student developmental needs by
maintaing a brisk pace through lesson implementation.

Strategic Play 4: We will maintain a team approach
to winning.
Teamwork will be a staple of the Harrisburg Elementary brand.
Our teachers will consistently collaborate to plan instruction,
assessment, and monitor student performance. We truly
believe that collaboration is key. As we engage in ongoing collegial
dialogue we will produce curriculum with more depth, which will
result in more memorable and effective learning experiences for
our students.
We are also committed to teaming with our parents to fully utilize
them as the invaluable resource they are. We will elicit parental
involvement by maintaining a large volunteer base, through the
implementation of our school’s School Improvement Council, and
the continued partnership with our Parent Teacher Organization.
Similarly, we will seek opportunities to team up with local
organizations, businesses, and community members so our
students have access to every resource our community has to offer.
Teamwork will be a staple of the
Harrisburg Elementary brand.
Strategic Play 5: Be technology literate. Use
technology to be more productive not destructive.
The task of producing technology literate students is an ever
changing and increasingly difficult task. The rate at which
technology changes and evolves can be mind boggling even for
those who enjoy technology and the many conveniences it brings
to our lives. We will work tirelessly to stay abreast with such
trends. We will implement technology at the school level that will
allow teachers to maximize productivity. Students will be exposed
to technology that will best prepare them to be fully functioning
citizens in an ever increasingly global economy. Finally, we will
offer ongoing professional development for teachers and systemic
collective inquiry to insure our technology related initiatives are
relevant and cutting edge.
