6th Grade English & Science ~ Mrs. Noble
Welcome to CR Anderson Middle School! Sixth grade is an amazing and busy year. You will meet
new friends, be challenged, become more independent, learn amazing new things, and have a lot of
fun. The GOLD team will help you navigate the wonders of middle school. As your English &
Science teacher, I am looking forward to spending the year getting to know you, and helping this year
be filled with success.
Parents please read the following expectations with your 6th grader. Return the bottom form signed
by Thursday, September 8th, 2016.
Expectations:
All students are expected to be cooperative, respectful achievers. Be ready to share your many talents
and contribute to class discussions & learning. You are expected to demonstrate your best efforts to
learn and complete all assignments. Be in your seat ready to work when the bell rings, or you will be
counted as tardy.
Supplies:
To insure success a successful 6th grade year, it is important to have all that you need in class every
day. Please be prepared to bring to English class a chapter book to read each day. You will need one
70 + page notebook for science & one for English. You may use a multi-subject notebook for both.
Please also have paper, pencils, a red pen, red, yellow & green highlighters, and colored pencils. You
will be given a home-to-school folder and a homework planner. At home, have a space set up to work
on your homework as well as a set routine for bringing homework to & from school.
Assignment Policies:
Assignments must be completed on time. If homework is not completed on time, students will
receive a late grade. If there are extenuating circumstances please contact me. If you are absent it is
your responsibility to ask for any make up work. Assignments will be in the room, posted on the
website, and written on the weekly board in our room. Students have 2 days to turn in any make up
work or arrange to make up quizzes or tests. Quizzes & tests are usually made up during lunch.
You will get full credit if turned in within a week, I will not ask you for missing work; it will be
your responsibility to turn in work. Late work will be accepted for partial credit. No-name papers
will be graded, but a zero will be in the grade book until claimed & labeled. The heading should be in
the upper-right hand corner of the paper.
PLEASE follow the correct heading procedures for all work.

Advisory:
After lunch you will have a 30 minute advisory. During this time homework will be posted, & you
will need to fill out your homework planner. This is an excellent time to get as much of your
homework completed as possible. This is also a very good time to talk with teachers about make up
work or make up missed quizzes or tests.
English:
In English we will be using the Houghton Mifflin series Collections. The first 12 minutes of each
day will be used for independent reading, or writing. Each student will be required to read one
chapter book of his/her choice each quarter. Be sure to bring a chapter book to read every day. You
will have a daily reading log assignment. When we do not read in class, reading for 15 minutes
every day will be a homework assignment to be completed at home or in advisory.
Science:
Sixth grade science is a general overview of multiple areas of science. We will study the Scientific
Method, measurement, earth science, weather, & astronomy. You will be able to write in the text
books you will be using. You will be taking notes, performing experiments, and participating in
class discussions and activities. Come prepared to ask questions, make predictions, make mistakes,
learn from those mistakes, and to broaden your horizons.
Please know that you are always welcomed to contact me about anything. Let’s have a fantastic year!
Open communication is essential for a positive learning experience. You can contact me through the
school e-mail [email protected] or by phone 324-2787. Parents and students can keep
track of their assignments and grades on PowerSchool. Homework assignments will be posted on the
CR Anderson website. Please return this form signed by September 8th, 2016.
