How is a decomposer different from a scavenger? Write in complete

◦ INSTRUCTIONS FOR FOOD CHAIN GAME:
◦ Today, we are going to practice inside to make sure we understand the rules
and your roles of the game.
◦ You are going to be playing a role during a game of tag. You will either be a
plant, wolf, deer, fungus, or vulture. Based on what role you have, that is how
you act during the game. You will have a chance to play more than 1 roles so
tonight STUDY EACH ROLE so you know what you need to do the next day
during our game of tag. If everyone does this and is ready for the game then
we can simply start playing right away.

◦ Producer (Plant)- You take the
energy of the sun, carbon dioxide,
and water, and you make sugar for
the consumers to eat.
◦ 1. You will not be able to move
around except to blow in the wind.
◦ 2. When a primary consumer
touches you, you are eaten. You
must then squat down for 20
seconds.
◦ 3. At the end of 20 seconds you
have regrown and can stand up
again.

◦ Primary Consumer (The Deer)- You eat
plants to get your energy.
◦ 1. You will be able to move around,
but deer make no noises, so you must
be silent. You can’t talk to other deer.
◦ 2. When a wolf (secondary consumer)
touches you, than you are eaten. You
must then duck down until you are
touched on the shoulder by 2 deer at
the same time. Your then reborn!
◦ 3. To stay alive you must eat a plant
every 20 seconds or else you die of
starvation.
◦ ****When you are dead, you may
make noises for the other deer to know
to come help you.

◦ Secondary Consumer (The Wolf)- You eat
other animals to get your energy.
◦ 1. You will be able to move around.
When you see a deer you want to eat
you must growl before you chase it.
◦ 2. When you tag a deer on the should it
has been eaten.
◦ 3. To stay alive you must eat a deer
every 20 seconds. If you fail to do this you
will die of starvation & must squat down
until 2 wolves touch you on the shoulder
at the same time. You are reborn!
◦ *****When you are dead you can make
noise to call other wolves to be reborn!

◦ Scavenger (The Vulture)-You only eat
dead organisms or in this case deer.
You are vital to the role of this
environment.
◦ 1. As a vulture you must soar around
waiting for dead deer.
◦ 2. You must find a dead deer every 45
seconds or else you die of starvation.
◦ 3. When you touch a dead deer they
are then magically reproduced as their
nutrients are recycled again.
◦ ******You are crucial to the ecosystem!
The deer are depending on you!

◦ Scavenger (The Fungus)- You only eat
dead organisms or in this case plants.
You are vital to the role of this
environment.
◦ 1. Fungus spreads quickly, therefore you
will be able to move around (walking
only).
◦ 2. If you see a plant that is dead you
may touch it on the shoulder to revive
that plant right away.
◦ 3. You will never die as fungus are very
resilient.
◦ ****You are crucial to the ecosystem! The
plants are depending on you!
