Code of Conduct
Jurisdiction
All matches played with a Bay of Plenty Cricket Association appointed umpire come under the
jurisdiction of Bay of Plenty Cricket Association. Any other matches come under the jurisdiction
of the local sub association in which they are played.
Official(
Coach(es) appointed by a club to manage and/or coach a team participating in the match.
Rules of the Code
a. Players and Team Officials must not indulge in unacceptable behaviour on any part of a
cricket ground including the field of play. Without in any way limiting the generality of the
b. Players must not infringe the rules relating to advertising on cricket clothing and equipment.
c. Players and Team Officials or any person holding any official position within cricket must not
make any public announcement or media comment or engage in any act, omission or
conduct prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket or
any cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute.
Procedures
The initiator shall report alleged infringements of the Code as follows:
a. Verbally advise a team representative within one hour of the conclusion of play on the day
of the alleged infringement, and
b. Confirmation in writing by facsimile to Bay of Plenty Cricket in the required format, within
seventy two hours of the conclusion of play in the match. The General Manager, The Bay
of Plenty Cricket Association Inc or designated nominee shall immediately submit copies
of Code of Conduct reports to the Commissioner in the area where the match or alleged
incident occurred. The Code of Conduct Commissioner will promptly convene a hearing
prior to the next competition playing day. This hearing may take place in person or by
telephone conference and may include verbal evidence from the initiator, the alleged
offender and other persons who may have witnessed the incident. Disciplinary action may
include written censure, suspension, loss of points (team) or monetary fine. This Code of
Conduct procedure will remain in place until further notice and shall apply to all levels of
cricket played under the jurisdiction of The Bay of Plenty Cricket Association Inc.
Appendix
Examples of unacceptable behaviour:
1. A player or Team Official assaulting or attempting to assault an umpire.
2. A player or Team Official abusing an umpire, or disputing, or showing dissent with an
towards an umpire, his decision, or generally following an umpiring decision.
3. Commentary: It is unacceptable for a player to ask a question of an umpire, connected
with a decision, which goes beyond a legitimate and neutral enquiry.

5. A player or Team Official using crude and/or abusive language, or engaging in conduct
detrimental to the spirit of the game.

7. A player or Team Official assaulting, attempting to assault, abusing another player or a
Team Official.
8. A player or Team Official assaulting, attempting to assault or unreasonably or
unnecessarily abusing a spectator.
A team captain, or vice captain
steps, upon being warned to do so, to control unacceptable behaviour by members of his
team.
Any player or any umpire, referee, Team Official or Administrator:
Has engaged in any of the following conduct:
1. Bet on any Match or series of Matches, or on any event connected with any Match or
series of Matches (Event), in which such player, umpire, referee, team Official or
Administrator took part;
2. Induced or encouraged any other person to bet on any match or series of Matches or on
any event or to offer the facility for such bets to be placed.
3. Gambled or entered into any form of financial speculation on any Match or on any Event;
4. Induced or encouraged any other person to gamble or enter into any other form of
financial speculation on any Match or any Event;
5. Was a party to contriving or attempting to contrive the result of any Match or the
occurrence of any Event;
6. Failed to perform on his merits in any Match owing to an arrangement relating to
betting on the outcome of any Match or on the occurrence of any Event;
7. Induced or encouraged any other player not to perform on his merits in any Match owing
to any such arrangement;
8. Received from another person any money, benefit or other reward (whether financial or
otherwise) for the provision of any information concerning the weather, the teams,
the state of the ground, the status of, or the outcome of, any
Match or the occurrence of any Event unless such information has
been provided to a newspaper or other form of media in
accordance with an obligation entered into the normal course and
disclosed in advance to any cricket authority;
Provided any money, benefit or other reward (whether financial or
otherwise) which could bring him or the game of cricket into
disrepute;
Received any approaches from another person to engage in conduct
such as that described in any of the above sub paragraphs a.(2)(5).
Is aware that any other player or individual has engaged in conduct,
or received approaches, such as described in any subparagraph of
paragraph (a) above; or has received or is aware that any other
person has received threats of any nature which might induce him
to engage in conduct, or acquiesce in any proposal made by an
approach, such as described in any Subparagraph of paragraph (a)
above.
