Dear Parents and Carers,
A very warm welcome back after the summer holidays and to our parents of Foundation children, hang in
there! For some of you this will be an emotional rollercoaster and we do understand!
Having seen some parents during my holiday travels I know that many of you are happily handing your
offspring back and believe me they are in for a fun, fascinating and fabulous year.

Parent Support Meetings:
These are not the same as parent evenings but are a chance for class teachers and myself to share year
group expectations with parents so you can better support your children at home. There will be an initial
input and discussion which I will lead and then a chance to talk to year group teachers about the specific
ways in which their year group needs you to work with your children at home and support them in their
learning, in all sorts of ways.
I would massively encourage you to put these meetings in your diary. We don’t anticipate they will last more
than 30 minutes but will really equip and enable you to support your children in the best and most effective
ways. We are often asked for this type of support at parent evenings and so have provided this opportunity.
We would love to see you there.
Lost Property:
Hard to believe we already have some lost property that we are looking for the correct homes for! Please
label your children’s clothes clearly and check regularly that they are still labelled as we often find shoes,
coats and many jumpers and know how important it is that they get back to the right child.
Macmillan Coffee afternoon:
The ‘Friends of Chaddlewood’ team have planned our Macmillan coffee afternoon for 2.30-4.00pm on Friday
25th September in the KS1 hall. Donations of cakes are very welcome and please come along and support this
incredibly worthwhile cause.
Toys needed by Foundation:
Foundation would love your old toys, specifically cars, boys dressing up clothes and kitchen utensils. They
thank you in anticipation 
Young Writers:
Huge congratulations to Paige Gould, Katie Clift, Brianna Veale, Chloe Thomas and Sophie Smith who have
been selected to have their ‘mini sagas’ published in a Once upon a time mini adventures book. The young
writers group held a competition last year and children were given the opportunity to write stories at home.
These children’s work was selected and will be published on 30th November 2015. www.youngwriters.co.uk
Team Captains:
The year 6 teachers and I have thought long and hard and we are pleased to announce that the team
captains for this year are:
Red team: George Jones and Faith Street
Blue team: Jacob Scantlebury and Alicia Dan
Green team: Ben Manning and Martha Rundle
Yellow team: Reuben Colverson and Paige Gould.
Huge congratulations to them all as it is a huge honour to be picked and was a very difficult decision with so
many fantastic children in year 6.
Staff:
A very warm welcome back to Mr Jensen; who has returned to us after a year of adoption leave and
congratulations to Miss Kittle who got married over the holidays and returns to us as Mrs Harley. She will be
working with Mrs Gleed (formally Miss Bradfield) in year 2.
Medicines Policy update:
An updated copy of our medicine policy is coming home soon and is on the school website but I wanted to
highlight one major change which I think is relevant to many parents. We will accepting non-prescription pain
medication (calpol etc) with a medicine parent permission form for conditions that require a lunchtime dose
of pain relief. For example, if your child has a broken arm and will need pain relief during the day, we can now
administer that without the need for the medicine to be prescribed. We have taken this decision after
consulting a local doctor’s surgery and the medicine in school guidelines and feel it will negate the need to
book a doctor’s appointment just for a prescription of an over the counter product. We feel this is a sensible
and practical decision and hope you agree.
Clubs Timetable:
We have already planned a full extra-curricular timetable for the children, as detailed below. Letters can be
collected from the members of staff running the clubs and do have various starting dates so please check
letters carefully for these.

Gate opening times:
We will be opening the bottom lane gate at 2.55pm from now on. This is a change from the previous 2.45pm
opening time. This decision is based on our safeguarding policy and allows us to ensure Foundation children
are back in class from their playground before parents gather near their classrooms.
It remains for me to remind you to please contact your child’s class teacher or myself if there is anything you
ever want to discuss.
Kind Regards
Sarah Mackness
