YHA Wellington accommodates all types of groups from schools and colleges, to sporting and cultural groups.

YHA Wellington is the closest hostel to Te Papa, and within easy walking distance of Capital E, Civic Square,
Parliament, Carter Observatory and transport to Zealandia and Wellington Zoo.

YHA Wellington can cater for up to 300 people across 104 rooms.

YHA's Commitment to your Group
YHA Wellington has a Group Reservation Manager acting as your first point of contact to ensure your
requirements are met and you have an enjoyable stay.

On arrival you will receive a group welcome explaining all the safety procedures and the hostel's
rules

You will be allocated separate group bedrooms and will not be expected to share with other guests
who are not in your group

The tour leader rooms will be allocated on the same level to facilitate effective supervision (subject
to availability)

YHA staff are trained and capable of handling emergency situations and 80% of our front line staff
have full Red Cross First Aid training

YHA will take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety and security of your group and their
property

A member staff will be available 24 hours a day and can be called upon to help with an emergency

The main entrance is locked at night and only guests with key can access the building.
The accommodation
Please note that due to the layout of rooms, groups of 40 or more may be located on different levels. All
bedrooms require swipe keys for access and a duplicate set can be provided for leaders to access all rooms
allocated to your group.
Shared rooms
Group members are accommodated in comfortable 4 or 6 bed rooms. Shared single sex bathroom facilities
are situated on each floor, however most share rooms have ensuite facilities. All bedding is provided
(duvets, sheets and pillows) and towels can be hired for $1.
Private rooms
Supervisors and tour leaders can be accommodated in single, double or twin rooms with private or shared
bathroom facilities. These rooms include all bed linen and towels. Please note that we have a limited
number of private rooms with ensuite facilities and they are subject to availability.

Group Breakfast
Continental breakfast can be served in our group kitchen upon
request for $10 per person. It includes a choice of three cereals,
yogurt, fruit, toast and spreads (butter, jam, honey and peanut
butter), tea, coffee and fruit juice.
Free WiFi for Group Leaders
We know being a group leader is tough work at the best of times and you need to stay contactable as much
as possible to keep things running smoothly. To help you stay connected YHA offers provides group leaders
with free high speed WiFi during their stay.
Free Booking Service
A free booking service is provided for all land-based domestic travel and activities including: Interislander
and Bluebridge ferries, Tranzalpine, Tranzscenic and Overland trains, Intercity coach travel and local shuttle
services.

Transport and getting to YHA Wellington City
By train
The railway station is 1.5km from the hostel. It is a 20-25 minute walk, or you can take the bus no. 1 or 2
and get off at the last stop on Courtenay Place. Turn left onto Cambridge Terrace. The hostel is 50m on left.
A taxi would cost approximately $10 - $15.
By Ferry
The Interislander ferry terminal is 3 km from the hostel. There is a shuttle to the railway station which costs
$2.00, then follow the instructions as above. For larger groups we recommend contacting us to book a
shuttle bus at $30.00 per van door to door. A taxi would cost approximately $15 - $20. The Bluebridge ferry
terminal is located opposite the train station.
From airport
Wellington Airport is 7km from the hostel. The most convenient option for a group it is to book a shuttle
bus at $67 per van door to door. Please ask our Groups reservation team to book this for you.
The Airport Flyer bus (no. 91) is $9.50 per person to Courtenay Place and a taxi is approximately $30.
By Car
Follow the motorway to the final exit on to Vivian Street. Continue down Vivian Street until you reach
Cambridge Terrace. Turn left on to Cambridge Terrace and the YHA is five blocks down on the corner with
Wakefield Street.
Car Parking
When you arrive at the hostel, please feel free to use our loading bay (between the white lines) while you
check in and we can advise you where to park. Unfortunately, we do not have our own off-street car park.
There is on-street car parking available, approximately a ten minute walk from the hostel, and costing $7.50
per vehicle per day (Mon-Fri 10am – 4pm) and free overnight and at weekends.
For secure overnight parking (5pm - 8am) at Te Papa you can purchase a ticket at the YHA reception for $6.
Also, there is parking buildings, again about a 10 minute walk away, if you would like more secure parking.

Coach Parking
There are a number of parking options for buses bringing groups to YHA Wellington City. The following
areas have been allocated by the Wellington City Council for buses to park. Parking is unrestricted and free
of charge. For more information you can call +64 4 499 4444.
 Wakefield St, opposite the Amora Hotel, capacity for 9 buses
 West side of Kent Terrace, before Elizabeth St, capacity for 4 buses
 The Terrace, past the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor, capacity for 2 buses
 Bunny St, between Thorndon & Lambton Quays, capacity for 4 buses
