1st Sports Council Meeting 2013/14 3rd October 2013 Present – Tony Whitehead (TW), Michael Pym (MP), Max Masters (MM), Sam Russell (SR), Aziz Quadri (AQ), Talia Boffa (TB), Natali Alvarez (NA), Scarlett Dempsey (SD), Bethan Morgan (BM), James Brewer (JB), Charlie Farr (CF), Roisin Dunne (RD), Ari Hayton (AH), Harry Stevenson (HS), Thomas Justice (TJ), Callum Allison (CA). 1. Welcome and Updates from Sports Clubs TW – welcomed everyone to the meeting All Updates from sports clubs – Hockey – MM, TJ and CA – training on Monday evenings – lots of new students showing an interest Basketball – AQ, TB and SR – trials on Monday evening – 30 men and 21 women showed up Netball – NA - training – 45 girls – trials on Monday evening Women’s Football – SD and BM – training on Wednesday afternoons in Avery Hill park – hoping to move to the airdome on campus soon – good turnout American Football – JB – 44 people interested/signed up – much more than last year – training as much as possible Cheerleading – RD and CF – 60 new students interested – looking at more training space – first social next week Rugby Union – AH and HS – held 3 training sessions – boat party tickets are selling well – 1st game is next Wednesday 2. Fresher’s Fortnight All TW asked about activities fun day as part of this – general consensus was that more advertising was needed but all seemed happy with freshers fortnight as a whole – questions were asked about the changes of drinks prices in Sparrows, why? – TW – to attract more people earlier to make a better atmosphere – asked for more communications about what Team Greenwich involves and how people can get involved 3. Initiations TW TW told everyone that BUCS have asked for initiations codes from all institutions so we need to stick to this and any plans for initiations of any form need to be put on the initiations form and e-mailed to [email protected] and [email protected] for the activities team and the bar manager to see at least 1 week before the initiations. Both parties need to give the all clear before they can go ahead 4. Fixtures None have taken place yet TW 5. Training and Facilities All JB – asked if American Football could us e the sports hall or mission fields for some sessions over the next few weeks until the airdome is available AQ – Basketball have had a few issues with security coming in early to lock up 6. Sports Council Meeting Times All Easier to keep it the same – ok for most people 7. Tour TW £60/£65 deposit to be paid before Christmas – sign up on the website 8. Sports Awards TW TW – possibly using Charlton Athletic Football Club’s ground (The Valley) – making the most of the link which is being set up as it’s a nice venue 9. Kits Kukri playing kit is on order – taking a while AQ – Basketball would like bigger shorts if possible TW 10. Any Other Business All Second membership – TW explained the complications – which account takes the money etc. RD – Insurance for injuries – what’s the process? – MP – forms need completing and handing in to SUUG offices for activities staff to process with insurers Thomas Mulquin memorial match 8th November at Blackheath Rugby Club 11.
