Withrow at the Worlds – Withrow Knights Team Selection Process and Criteria The Withrow Knights team that will be going to the world championships in Pilsen, Czech Republic, in September, 2012, will be made up of men involved in the Withrow Park Ball Hockey League. To be eligible, players must be: Born in 1972 or earlier. Able to meet financial commitments. The trip could cost up to $3,000/player, depending on fundraising. This amount will cover tournament registration, travel, and accommodations. The team will offer the services of a General Manager, Coach, Therapist, Manager/Trainer, and team Doctor. Payment schedule is: o $200 refundable deposit with this Registration Form by June 1, 2011. (Refunded if you don’t make the team.) o $500 deposit upon making the team – November 1, 2011. o $1,000 deposit – January 15, 2012 o Final payment, up to $1,300 (possibly decreased by fundraising) – May 1, 2012. Able to commit 7 – 10 days to travel to Europe in September, 2012 Able to commit time in the year prior to the Championship for mandatory team practices, exhibitions, and events. Willing to get into excellent physical condition prior to the tournament. The team will be selected by the co-Heads of Hockey Operations of the Withrow at the Worlds Project, David Valenta and Lenny Abramowicz, with the input the CBHA’s George Gortsos, and the team’s coach, Chris Pellerin. Selection factors will include: Able to meet all the commitments listed above. Positive attitude on and off the rink. Will be an excellent ambassador for Withrow and Canadian ball hockey overseas. Will be a supportive teammate and a good fit with the team. Ball hockey skills. Top level of conditioning. Previous experience at competitive ball hockey tournaments. Play and performance in the Withrow house league, and at team practices. Contribution to the Withrow house league and Withrow Knights select team. Willingness to work on the Withrow at the Worlds project. Team needs for balance in positions and skills. Everyone who registers (with $200 deposit) will be invited to take part in the initial team practices, which will be run by Chris Pellerin and/or George Gortsos, in September and October, 2011. (There may be some practices in July, 2011). Team selection will occur at the beginning of November, 2011. Team practices will recommence in spring, 2012.
