FIGHT PROFIT-REDUCING SCAB WITH PROSARO FUNGICIDE. ® Broad-spectrum Prosaro® fungicide offers unbeatable scab control and mycotoxin suppression, giving you maximized yields and grain quality. Grow more profit with Prosaro. WHAT IS SCAB? •Fusarium head blight (FHB), or scab, is an aggressive disease which can affect grain quality and reduce wheat yields. Scab thrives in the conditions in which your crop thrives. •According to the U.S. Wheat and Fusarium head blight Barley Scab Initiative, yield losses “tombstones” on wheat. can exceed 50 percent and cost nearly $300 million in profit during epidemics. •Infected plants produce sterile flowers with kernels that have a shrunken, chalky, white appearance, nicknamed “tombstones.” •The Fusarium pathogen overwinters in the residue from corn or wheat crops, so crop rotation practices often used to manage worm and insect pests aren’t effective when it comes to scab. •Corn-to-wheat crop rotation can increase scab infection. THE ISSUES WITH DON •Scab can lead to contamination of a particularly potent mycotoxin known as deoxynivalenol (DON). •DON-infected grain is difficult or impossible to market. The presence of DON reduces flour quality for millers and may be unacceptable for malting and brewing. •In 2013, the Chicago Board of Trade lowered the limits on the amount of DON in wheat that could be shipped to 3 parts per million (ppm), and to avoid price discounts the level can’t exceed 2 ppm. In other words, even trace amounts of DON in your fields can have significant impact on profits. YIELD AND QUALITY PROTECTION FROM PROSARO Prosaro fungicide has two active ingredients to provide broad-spectrum disease control of both leaf and head diseases—especially of profit-robbing scab—to help maximize yields, quality and profit potential. •For outstanding scab-clean spring and winter wheat, apply Prosaro at 6.5 fl oz/A. •When applied at flowering—Feekes 10.51—Prosaro has been shown to reduce DON by as much as 50-70%. DON LEVEL REDUCTION WITH PROSARO 4.00 3.50 3.57 3.00 DON (ppm) DISEASE MANAGEMENT When evaluating fungicides as part of your management practice to prevent and treat scab, it’s important to note that not all fungicides are created equal. •Strobilurin-containing products DO NOT control scab; in fact, if applied too near early flowering stage, strobilurins may actually increase DON levels. •Scab can be present before symptoms are visible, so fungicide application timing is critical. Results from 31 winter wheat trials conducted 2008-10 in IN and OH. Prosaro applied at Feekes growth stage 10.51. 2.50 2.00 1.50 1.00 1.18 0.50 0.00 Untreated Prosaro 6.5 fl oz/A •As the leading fungicide for fighting scab in the U.S., Prosaro has been rigorously tested for the performance of its two active ingredients. •North Dakota State University rates the triazole chemistry in Prosaro as “very good”—the highest rating among fungicides in efficacy against scab. UNTREATED Few visuals illustrate the effects of scab on grain quality as well as a side-by-side comparison. The two loaves of bread in this picture were made using the exact same recipe, baked at the same temperature and using all the same ingredients—except for one. Flour made from scab-infected wheat that was contaminated with DON was used in the top loaf. While the bottom loaf was baked with uncontaminated flour.
