A match play ladder tournament is a way to introduce competitive golf to paid-up members wishing to play more competitive golf. It provides an opportunity to play a different tournament format. The only extra costs to paid-up members are the rounds of golf played. HOW IT WORKS - initial rankings are based on index (lowest index is highest ranking) - the colour of tee played will depend on the player’s course handicap - the spread in course handicaps is the number of holes given to the player with the higher index (for example, if the spread is five, the player with the higher index gets an extra stroke on the five toughest holes); spread is capped at 18 - lower ranked players on the ladder issue challenges to higher ranked players - challenges are limited to players who are, at most, three spots higher in the rankings - challenges must be accepted unless another challenge is already in progress or there are extenuating circumstances - players have three weeks to complete their match and submit the results - players agree on the date, time, and course for their match (matches are 18-holes on a rated course) - if the lower ranked player wins the match, the lower ranked player takes over the ranking of the higher ranked player and the player that was higher ranked moves down one rung on the ladder - if the higher ranked player wins the match, both players maintain their position in the rankings - depending on entries, there could be a separate ladder for men and women RULES - members must have a verifiable handicap index (free online okay as long as index can be confirmed) - RCGA Rules of Golf relating to Singles Match Play apply - matches are to be 18-holes on any course that has a slope & course rating - players have three weeks to complete their match - each player must play a minimum of four times during the tournament season to be eligible for placement at the end of the season and, depending on ladder position, is expected to make at least two challenges and accept two challenges - players cannot play the same player in consecutive matches and not more than two matches can be played between the same two players during the tournament HOUSEKEEPING th th - tournament runs June 15 through September 30 - members interested in joining the ladder must email [email protected] and must submit their handicap index with a link for verification th - members wishing to join the ladder after June 15 , will be added to the bottom rung of the ladder as entries are received regardless of their index - rankings are posted on the website (www.vcgc.ca/match-play-ladder) - a list of contact email addresses will be emailed out to participating members only - the player issuing a challenge is to contact their chosen opponent directly - the player that made the challenge sets up the match unless the challenged player offers to do it - the player that made the challenge must submit the results to [email protected] before the Thursday following the match and the player that was challenged must verify the results - match results will be posted to the website every Thursday
