Elementary and secondary students who are eligible to receive related services (e.g., speech/language) in addition to classroom instruction will receive
the related services during instructional time. For example, if a student is recommended for classroom instruction and 30 minutes of speech/language
service per week, the 30 minutes of speech/language service will be provided during the block of time that the student is attending an ESY instructional
program. If a student is ONLY going to receive speech/language services, please refer to the charts below. In order to provide consistency and continuity
of services, the IEP team must make individualized decisions about the length of time and frequency based on the individualized needs of the student and
his/her IEP goals and objectives.

Augmentative and Alternative
Communication (AAC)
The target population is students who are
in kindergarten through second grade who
are currently enrolled in the AAC
transition classes. Special education
instruction will be provided for students
who are non-verbal or have limited speech
w/severe intelligibility issues who are
using AAC Devices.
Autism Program
The target population is students who are
currently enrolled in an Autism program.

provided for students with Autism
Spectrum Disorders, who may have
complex learning, language, social,

Rock Terrace School: Students ages 12 through 21. Primary disabilities include
intellectual disabilities or significant learning disabilities, autism, language
disabilities, emotional disabilities, medical conditions, and/or physical disabilities.

Other Special Programs
Project Discovery
Project Discovery is a recreationally
oriented program for students with
physical disabilities (grades K-12)
cosponsored by MCPS, Montgomery
County Health Department, and the
Montgomery County Recreation
Department. Program activities include
adaptive physical education and
swimming, with support from occupational
therapists, physical therapists, and speech
therapists.
