Job Description for Estate Maintenance Person, Scone Palace
Job Title:
Estate Maintenance Person
Responsible to:
Estate Foreman
Main purpose
of job:
Working with the Estate Maintenance Department as part of a three person team,
carrying out general maintenance, using safe working practices, throughout the Estate.
Main responsibilities include :
- House renovation and maintenance, including joinery, plastering, plumbing, painting,
clearing gutters and drains, broken windows or any other domestic problems with buildings
- Woodland works: felling trees, branches, cutting up blown trees & branches or associated tasks
- Fencing: erecting, removing and repairing garden, stock and deer fences
- Grounds maintenance to include: cutting and strimming grass and hedge maintenance

Safe use of machinery as necessary including tractors and trailers, forklifts, chainsaws and other machinery
and hired plant. Not to use any such equipment unless trained in its use and to be aware of the contents
of the manufacturers users-manual paying particular attention to safety and maintenance notices. Report
immediately any faults with such equipment to the Estate Foreman or Estate Surveyor

Safe practice of demolition and working at heights

Working on emergencies in adverse weather conditions

To maintain a safe and tidy work area; carry out all operations in a safe working manner; when working
with equipment to be aware of other members of staff and the public

To have an understanding of all current health and safety legislation; to use the correct PPE; to use tools
and equipment only for the purpose for which they were designed and report any Health and Safety
issues immediately to the Estate Surveyor

Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Estate Foreman or Estate Surveyor

QUALIFICATIONS
City and Guilds qualification in a buildings maintenance/construction trade or equivalent

Health and Safety qualification or equivalent experience
D
Full and clean driving licence, with trailer towing capability

Machinery tickets to include: strimming, chainsaw, ATV, forklift, cherrypicker & scaffold
D
EXPERIENCE
Demonstrable practical experience of working in a similar maintenance role

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Good all round maintenance knowledge and skills

Excellent problem solving skills

Up to date knowledge of the latest Health & Safety developments
