SOCIAL JUSTICE + WELL BEING Integrated arts education Inner City Angels + Fashion Takes Action “My Clothes, My World™” is a great opportunity to introduce young people to important world issues through one of their favourite topics – fashion! Ar@st designers provide interac@ve ac@vi@es that elicit discussion around issues such as consumerism, labour rights and environmental degrada@on. It opens the students’ eyes to the truth about the apparel industry and inspires them to take meaningful ac@on. Students tackle ques@ons such as … Where do our clothes come from? How are our clothes made? What happens to our clothes at the end of their life? Do you really need that new ar@cle of clothing? Students in grades four through eight explore these ques@ons, and by the end of the day are able to describe several problems that exist within the fashion industry and come up with sustainable solu@ons. And aMer seeing how liNle the developing world fashion workers receive for their work and how it doesn’t cover basic living costs, students were eager to regulate the industry by ensuring everyone involved receives a decent living wage. Solu%ons may include up-‐cycling, repurposing, reducing consump%on, elimina%ng toxic dyes and other pollutants.
