WTC Junior Aquathon Series Bray 2015 Introduction We look forward to seeing you and your child/children at our Junior Aquathon on Wednesday the 10th June at 6pm. We hope the below is helpful to you in preparation for the event. This is our first TI sanctioned Race Series so we are all very excited and hope your children have a great experience. If you would like to volunteer as a marshall please let me know so I can allocate you a marshall position. I would need marshalls to be available from 5.30pm at the latest. Registration Registration and will take place on from 5pm on WEDS the 10th June on the second floor of the Martello on the Bray Promenade. Its situated in front of the bandstand. The cost of this race is €10. All competitors should produce their Triathlon Ireland (TI) membership card with photograph attached. Please contact TI and order your card if you have not yet done so. If you do not have a TI card you must purchase a One Day Licence to race. The cost of the ODL is €3. Cash only on the day please. At registration, each competitor will receive a race number, and a corresponding label. The race number and wave sticker should be attached to your t-shirt/race belt and transition box. You will also be given a coloured wrist band for your wave and a swim hat and this hat must be worn for your race. AGE 8-9 10-11 12-13 14-15 SWIM 50M 200m 300m 400m DISTANCES RUN 500M 1.5km 2km 3km WAVE COLOUR Wave 1 BLUE Wave 2 GREEN Wave 3 YELLOW Wave 4 RED Pre Start On the day, both athletes and spectators are advised to park anywhere along the promenade. As it can be quite busy we suggest you get there in plenty of time to get a park. Marshalls will be there to help if required. Transition will be open from 5pm. Only competitors and officials will be allowed access to the transition area. Verbal briefings from race organisers will take place at 5.45pm. All competitors must be within the transition area at this time. The race will start at 6pm SHARP. As there is a senior race after the Junior Race we must be off the course in 1 hour so its very important that we start on time. Please don’t be late. Gear Please make sure you child has the following for the day: *Swim suit, swim hat, goggles and wetsuit. Make sure your goggles aren’t broken and straps are on tightly. *Towel and change of warm clothes. The water will be cold so please have a warm change of clothes for after. *Runners, socks (optional) *Running t shirt (roomy so it can fit over a wet torso) and running shorts. Tri suit if you want or race suit. Your race number will need to be pinned to the FRONT of your t shirt or on your race belt, and you will receive a matching sticky label to put on your transition box. *water will be provided, but bring a small water bottle to hydrate before the race. Swim We will conduct the swim in the sea along the shore. Wetsuits are compulsory. The smaller children will be swimming in waist deep water. They will be able to stand if they need to. There will be marshalls in the sea in case anyone gets into difficulty. Any swimmer who gets into difficulty should follow standard protocol. Stand up if in your depth. If not, roll onto your back, stay calm and raise your hand in the air. At the end of your swim make your way up to transition. Parents can assist the younger ones out of their wetsuits. Transition Transition rules require each athlete to wear a t-shirt, shorts and runners. Or your race gear (tri suit/tri top/shorts) Socks are optional. Marshalls will be available to assist in helping the kids with getting into t-shirts and out of wetsuits if they require it. Do not interfere with anyone else’s equipment. If anything is knocked over by accident, please replace it. Run A race number must be visible on the front at all times during the run. The run will take place up the promenade. The run course is a straight out and back course. Marshalls will assist at each turn around point. Post Event Each athlete should bring a towel and a warm change of clothes. Ensure that you re-hydrate and fuel properly after the race. Soup and sambos will be provided afterwards at 7pm. WAVE 2 Start at the Rocks and swim south towards the bandstand. WAVE 3 Start halfway down then north towards rocks and back to swim exit. WAVE 4 Start from the Exit point and swim North, turnaround then South to exit point. TRANSITION BLUE STARS MARSHALLS RUN COURSE WAVE 1 BLUE (500M) WAVE 2 GREEN (1.5KM) WAVE 3 YELLOW (2KM) WAVE 4 RED (3KM) AROUND TO FIRST CONE AND BACK AROUND 250M GREEN AND BACK THEN OUT TO LAST CONE AND BACK (you will collect 2 x green bands) TO LAST CONE AND BACK TWICE (you will collect 2 x yellow bands) TO LAST CONE AND BACK THREE TIMES (you will collect 3 x red bands)
