Virtue: Obedience—trusting those who lead you by doing what you’re asked to
do.
Pre-Service Game
Large Group Icebreaker- Stick to It
What You Need: Bags of cotton balls, tongs, masking tape, bowl, spoons, timer
 Place the bags of cotton balls on one end of the room.
 On the other end of the room, hang a few strips of masking tape on the wall with
the sticky side facing out. (The goal is to have a section of tape about 3 feet by 3
feet.)
 Midway between the two, place an empty bowl.
 Let two or three kids use the tongs to take the cotton balls out of the bags and
put them in the bowl.
 Then, have another three to four kids be responsible for using spoons to scoop
the cotton balls out of the bowl one at a time and take them to the remaining kids,
who are standing about three feet back from the masking tape on the wall.
 The kids standing near the masking tape will take the cotton balls and throw
them at the masking tape, trying to get them to stick.
 Give kids three minutes to see how many cotton balls they can stick to the tape.
 Then, rotate jobs and play again, letting kids see if they can beat their previous
record.
What You Say:
“Even though the ultimate goal of this challenge was to stick the cotton balls to the
masking tape, that wasn’t the only job that was important. Every person had to help get
the cotton balls to the person who was throwing them. Everything we do is part of
something bigger. For instance, it takes a lot of people to make church happen every
week, from the person who unlocks the door in the morning to the last person who
cleans up afterward. We need to remember that we are helping carry out God’s plan and
that you and I should trust and obey because there's a bigger plan.”

Activity: Puppet Play (application activity / review the Bible story)
What You Need: Paper lunch sacks, markers
Give each kid a paper lunch sack and divide kids into groups of five or six.
 Assign each kid a person from the story (i.e. Abraham, Isaac, Sarah, servants),
and let them decorate the lunch sack to look like their person. (They will probably
just draw faces, but encourage them to draw hair, robes, and shoes/sandals as
well.)
 Review the story together, using the conversation paragraph below. As you do,
let the kids use their characters to act out the story.
(To review the Bible story) “In today’s Bible story, God told Abraham and Sarah they
would have a son, but Sarah laughed because she didn’t think it was possible. A year
later, however, she did have a son and named him Isaac. God knew how much
Abraham loved Isaac, but He asked him to give his son back to God. Abraham was

willing to return his son to God because he knew God must have a bigger plan, so he
obeyed. At the last moment, God provided a ram to Abraham and accepted that as an
offering in place of Isaac. Just like Abraham was willing to give up his son for God, God
was willing to give up His son for us. By thanking God for giving His Son Jesus to save
us from our sins and asking Him to forgive our sins, we can be in God’s family too.
(After kids have acted out the Bible story) “You guys did a great job of making your
characters out of puppets and acting out the story! It must have been very hard for
Abraham and Sarah to believe that God was still going to give them a son, even when
they were as old as great-great grandparents! But they trusted God. Their faith shows
me that I should trust and obey because there's a bigger plan. We might not always
know the bigger plan, but God always has one.”
