Year One and Two – Summer Term –Throwing and catching
On your own with a partner. Throw tennis. Travelling with a ball. Describe what it feels
like when they breathe faster during exercise.
STAGE 1 Move fluently, change direction, avoid collisions. Show control
and accuracy with the basic actions rolling and underarm throwing.
STAGE 2 Throwing- targets, in pairs and Game of throw tennis
STAGE 3 Rolling- weight behind an object
STAGE 4 THROWING- bowing, bean bags hoops Throwing for accuracy
and distance.
STAGE 5 TRAVELLING WITH A BALL- running with a ball using different
ways.
STAGE 6 Games and mini games. Take out rules tactics and skills so
children understand the relevance of each.
TEACHING POINTS
Children must look at where they are going. Gradually build up speed.
THROWING- head forward ,eyes focused on the target. Take hand back then
release. Pupils encouraged to release a quality roll, catch, bounce and comment.
How could it be improved?
Catch with BIG HANDS. Throwing with right hands- opposite leg forward and visa
versa.
ON TOES-lightly
AIMING- keep your eye on the target. Hand eye
co-ordination.
OVERARM THROW- head up eyes ahead, hand back bring forward then release the
ball
Get inline with the ball to receive it
TRACKING- Children need to be inline with the ball to receive it. They must make
sure they move in its pathway.
