Note for Merlin Project Express Users
Following functions are only available in Merlin Project.
Reports
Report views in Merlin Project are organized in report modules. You may use existing
reports, create your own, or individualize them by modifying their settings.
These report modules are available:
• Bar Chart
• Budget Cost Chart
• Project View
• Text
• Time Phase Chart
• Time Phase List
You will probably use the 'Project View’ module regularly. Columns and Gantt options of a
'Project View’ module can be adapted to your needs in the actual module view. In this
report’s view you can even apply filters or other options relevant for your reports.

Depending on the report module type, you will see different inspector options. For
example a 'Budget Cost Chart’ offers budget columns for the graph on top of the filter.
A ‘Time Phase List’ requires the sampling duration and the fields it is supposed to
calculate.
The same applies for a ‘Time Phase Chart’:

Examples
Insert and remove columns in the 'Status' report view.
To enable or disable columns in a 'project view' report module, you first need to identify
the actual project view instance. The 'Report > Status' view shows several project views of
the same 'Work Breakdown > Status compact' view with different filters applied. This way
you can integrate individual modules for tasks on time, tasks slightly behind schedule, etc.
In order to insert a column, you first need to switch to the view you want to modify (in this
case 'Work Breakdown > Status compact') and add the missing column there.

Examples

You may select the format for the column either in the actual project
view or in the Report module. If you want to apply this modification to all
report modules showing this view, you should apply the format to the
actual project view.
To remove a column, simply select it and press Backspace or click on the column header
and select 'Hide'.

This will lead to the following result:
If you now switch back again to the 'Report > Status' view, you will see the report modules
showing the modified project view and the added columns.

7
Change the sampling duration of the 'Earned Value' report view.
Click on the 'Earned value' chart.
Enter the desired sampling duration in the Time Phase Chart Inspector, for example '1
eday'.
You may use days, weeks, quarters, years. Or edays, eweeks, equarters and eyears.
8
Change the sampling duration of the 'Earned Value' report view.

Select a small but not too small sampling duration, otherwise Merlin
Project might not be able to draw the chart.
Show work costs per resource in a chart and table
In Merlin Project you can modify existing report views and save them as new report views
with individual report modules. Let’s take the 'Report > Budget/Cost Overview' report as an
example.
Switch to the 'Report > Budget/Cost Overview'
In the View menu click on 'Reports > Edit'
Select the 'Budget/Cost Overview' view, click on the '+' button to duplicate the view.
Name the custom report and click on the 'Activate' button.

Now you can delete the budget chart and insert a new Report > Bar chart.
Edit the Title, apply a filter for all resources excluding the Default resource and select the
work cost column.
10
Show work costs per resource in a chart and table
Add a 'Project View' report module. Set 'Type' to 'Resources' and 'View' to 'Cost', and apply
the filter 'Real Resources'.
Share the report view to other local documents
Go to the View menu > Reports > Edit.
Select the custom report view.
Use the 'gear' symbol to 'share with other local projects'
