The new all-weather,
synthetic turf and multipurpose field facilities at
Wilson High School are
ready for use.
This week, FieldTurf installers finished the sand and rubber infill on the
fields. Workers then installed the football goal posts and conducted the
impact resistance test of the artificial turf. The electrical utility enclosure
fence and gates were the last touches to complete this project just in
time for soccer practice on Monday.

of the green/purple color theme, 20 to 10 votes, for their new school's
play equipment. The fifth graders enjoyed being part of this process
since they won't be attending the new Washington school next school
year.
By minimizing platforms in the playground design, the vast majority of
play features are ground level and entirely accessible by children who
may not be able to access the traditional post and platform structure,
therefore meeting the current standards for ADA Accessible Design for
play equipment.
A stair/deck and two climbers were added to make the slide more
accessible for younger students.
Also, ground level components such as these are fantastic for
wheelchair users especially to interact with and develop upper body
strength by pulling themselves up, or moving using many of the lower
play activities. The structure also includes an accessible transfer station
for children with limited mobility to access the platform.

Students at Washington
elementary share w hat they like
about the new play equipment.
The presenters shared the designs for the new school and participated
in a Q&A discussion with students. Stewart sixth-, seventh- and eighthgrade students were fascinated to learn how much an architect, general
contractor and project manager earns, as well as how much schooling
is required for those careers and the broad spectrum of skilled-trade
opportunities involved in construction work.
Students had a lot of questions and feedback. One student asked about
apprenticeship opportunities. Some students shared creative ideas for
the remodel of the new school, such as clear walls in classrooms that
look into the hallways, or kool-aid in the fountains at the grand opening
celebration of the new school. What do you think?
