Eynesbury Playtime really taking shape
Eynesbury will soon host sporting facilities
likely to be the envy of the region following last
month’s decision by Melton Council to approve
a sporting master-plan which includes two fullsized football ovals, two outdoor basketballnetball courts and eight tennis courts.
The sporting precinct will also feature a
barbeque area, a play space for dogs, 249
parking spaces and viewing pavilions.
An adventure playground is also included in
the plan.
“There really is something for everyone, most
sport and other recreation activities will be
catered for”, said Villa World project executive,
Ted Cronin.
years starting this year, with each stage being
triggered by the number of house lots titled
in Eynesbury. We anticipate stage one to be
completed over the next 12-18 months.”
Some parts of the project will be delivered by
the developer and others by Melton Council
and the active open space area will arrive in
five stages.
“This is great news for the people of
Eynesbury ”, said Ted Cronin, “this area will be
a substantial additional to the already created
assets such as the golf course, Discovery
Centre, tennis courts, skate park and multiple
playgrounds. It’s exactly what sets Eynesbury
apart from other residential developments”.
Melton Council’s leisure and facilities manager
Adrian Burns told the Melton Weekly, “The
project is to be staged over a number of
Age no barrier to golfing glory
Jack Waterford turns 80 later this year and on
most days you will find him on the fairways at
Eynesbury Golf Course.
Most weeks he plays three times and he loves
it, “it’s the open air and the camaraderie”, he
said.
Originally from Victoria Jack and his wife
Maureen recently moved back from Tweed
Heads so she could be closer to her family.
After looking around Jack discovered the
Eynesbury Golf Course and knew where he
wanted to live.
“So I found this place and I love it, it’s a
wonderful place to be in, everybody is very
friendly”, he said.
Jack says the golf course is always challenging,
“its laid out for better golfers than me and the
creeks and bunkers seem to be right in my
hitting zone but I’m never going to get bored”.
Jack recently put all of the young bombers to
shame when he won a monthly medal and he
has plans for many more.

COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION NEWS
Welcome to all new residents coming into
Eynesbury, and especially those that have just
moved into Stage 11, up on the ‘hill’.
Please say hello and give our new neighbours
the warm and friendly welcome that is so
unique to Eynesbury.
Congratulations to the Eynesbury Eagles
Cricket Club for organising the Market and
Family Fun Day on Sunday 26th May. All
that attended had a great day, and snapped
up a few bargains while supporting a local
Eynesbury Club.
Put Saturday 22nd of June in your diary. The
Owners Corporation Events committee has
been busy organising a Winter Solstice Party,
complete with bonfire, fire performers and
African Drum troupe. Pizza and coffee vendors
will be on site to warm you up! More details
available on the Events Calendar on the
residents website.
The planned burning off in the Environmental
Areas has been successfully carried out. Fuel
loads and pest weeds have been reduced.
Native grass seed will be sown into bare areas
over winter, ready for the next growing season.
Spring should also reveal expected new growth
of established native grass species. Further
work in the Native Grassland Area includes
weed control and removal of rabbit warrens.
The Forest has also had quite a bit of attention,
with pest weed and boxthorn removal along
the Heritage Trail to the Shearing Shed
complex, and further north between the track
and the Grassland fence. Winter work includes
maintenance over the areas that have already
been cleared of pests, including rabbits.
Around town, work crews have been busy
spreading topsoil and sowing the nature
strips in Stages 3, 7 and 10. Good results are
occurring already with plenty of green grass
growing through the red Eynesbury dirt. Rain
Gardens are being cleaned out and filled with
special plant varieties that begin the process of
removing pollutants from stormwater before it
finds its way into the Werribee River. This work
will continue through Stages 9, 11 and 7C. Any
nature strips that have not been repaired due
to home construction will be done in spring.

Major Author launches Murder
Mystery at Homestead
The books have recently been adapted to a
television show, with the second series currently
being filmed by ABC TV.
To celebrate the launch of the 20th book in the
series, Murder & Mendelssohn, Kerry Greenwood
will be joining fans for a Sunday afternoon to
remember at Eynesbury Homestead.
“As a big fan of the books I approached
publisher Allen & Unwin to see if they would
consider us as a venue for the book launch,”
Eynesbury’s Client Relationship Manager Emma
Sutcliffe said.
“They were delighted with our concept of a
garden party High Tea, complete with jazz band
and themed photobooth, and gave us the go
ahead,” she said.
Melbourne in the 1920’s was a dark and
dangerous place, full of murderers and thieves.
At least, that’s what author Kerry Greenwood
would have you believe, with her Phryne Fisher
Mystery series of books.
Set in St Kilda after the First World War, complex
and mysterious crimes are solved by the
Hon. Miss Fisher, an English aristocrat whose
childhood years were spent on the streets of the
poorer suburbs of Melbourne.
“We’ve also teamed up with the national Inside
History magazine to promote the event, with
every guest receiving the latest copy of the
magazine at the event.”
“Guests are encouraged to dress up in the
costume of the era, so we should have a lot of
fun with that!”
Exford’s Wacky
Walkathon Day.
From Principal Lisa Campo
Exford’s Wacky Walkathon Day was held on
Wednesday 12 June to support our 2013-14 goal
of saving funds for an additional playground.
Despite the wintry and wet conditions, Exford’s
sense of fun rose to the challenge and we
designed an indoor walkathon route, with
children travelling in and through our classrooms.
Our whole community got into the swing with
wacky outfits abounding, with children, staff
and families all joining in the ‘wackiness’ as they
walked around the school.
We all slept very well.
The children and their families will now talk to
their sponsors and return the amounts they’ve
raised to school and prizes will be awarded at
our final Assembly of Term 2.
Our Fundraising Group is just wonderful in the
way they work so hard for our kids and we can’t
thank them, the kids or the staff enough for their
efforts.
Tickets for the event are now on sale via www.

Little group but big morning tea
This time of year is perfect for a hot cuppa, a bit of
cake and a nice chat with your neighbours.
Which is exactly what the Eynesbury Bugs
Playgroup did to support the Cancer Council’s
Biggest Morning Tea recently.
Organisers and local resident’s Kate Davis (left)
and Monica Slattery said they were delighted with
the turnout, and had initially only aimed to raise
$500 from the morning.
“We’ve had such great support from all the mothers
of the playgroup, who all made cakes or savouries
to eat and sought donations for the silent auction
and raffle from local businesses.” said Kate, the
playgroup coordinator.
“Thanks to them, we’ve raised over $700 and over
40 people came along, which is a great effort for
our little group.”
The Eynesbury Bugs Playgroup supports young
families in the area at the Discovery Centre and
meets every Wednesday morning from 9am
to 11am during school terms. Contact Kate at

Night History Tours @ Eynesbury with Lantern Ghost
Tours – Friday 28th June, Friday 26th July, Friday
23rd August
Congratulations to the
As the Melton Weekly reported, “They’re the
start-up club that rocked the WSUCCA and
took home a premiership in their first year of
existence. Within months the Eynesbury Eagles
went from a team with eight blokes training and
looking for ring-ins to a title”.
The Eagles are the brainchild of energetic,
Eynesbury resident, Matt Scalzo who was a
cricketer who had enjoyed both team and
individual success with Keilor in the VTCA
& Kealba-Green Gully in the North West
Metropolitan Cricket Association, but he was
looking for a change.
With three young children, Scalzo, who has lived
in Eynesbury since March 2010, wanted to ditch
the weekend drive and play closer to home. “If
you didn’t play golf there weren’t many ways
for the Eynesbury community to get together,”
Scalzo said. “I wanted to do something while I
was young enough, start something so that by
the time they’re ready, my kids can play junior
sport locally.”
Scalzo is now looking for new players and local
businesses to come and support the club and
recently organised a community market day to
raise funds and awareness for the Eagles.
Putting junior teams on the park and an oval in
the Eynesbury township are the next big goals
for the club, in conjunction with help from the
council, township and sponsors. At this stage the
senior team’s goal is 40 registered players to field
a first XI in WSUCCA A grade synthetic, a second
XI and a third XI in the one-day competition. “It’s
great to teach players who have never played
before and develop them into better players,”
Scalzo said. “As the estate builds we seem to be
getting a lot of kids between five and 11 years
old. We’re hopeful of putting an under-10s and
under-12s in next season, putting out the call
for junior coaches. “Winning the premiership
helps . . . when we talk to sponsors, prospective
players, we’ve got a good brand.”

Meet the Neighbours - The Alwanga Family
Franklin and Monica Alwanga moved their
family to Eynesbury from Point Cook and they
couldn’t be happier.
moved into their double storey home, the first
here to be built by Carlisle Homes and are only
now getting used to the relaxed lifestyle.
The Alwangas arrived in Australia from Nairobi,
Kenya some nine years ago and until recently
lived in Point Cook.
“It’s a beautiful place we love it”, said Franklin.
“It was getting too busy, too many people, too
much traffic” said Franklin.
Franklin came to Eynesbury for a game of golf
and was taken by “the serenity of the place, it’s
so peaceful and beautiful, it’s like you’re in the
country”, he said.
The couple and their three children recently
The Alwangas run a training business in St
Albans and Monica says she loves driving home
through the forest and away from the hustle
and bustle.
“I love the kangaroos, the different types of
birds and the view out of my back window is
not of other houses but of the golf course”.
Franklin and Monica are looking forward to
meeting the neighbours in the coming months.
Pennant team strikes gold
Eynesbury competed in Golf Victoria Pennant
Division 5 competition in 2013.
Since fielding a team in the competition for the
1st time 3 years ago the team was promoted in
its 1st year finishing second, and again this year
made the final.
Eynesbury got off to a good start in Round 1
with a strong team led by Pennant Manager
and resident Stephen Walsh.
With club champions Rod Leetham, Jason
Pallpratt and Daniel Adem along with Captain
Kelvyn Carmichael, Eynesbury had a strong top
4. Matthew Burns, Andrew Crosby, Cameron
Kaye, Drew Heath and Scott Campbell all made
solid contributions throughout the season for
the team.
Losing its 2nd match at Whittlesea was a minor
hiccup as Eynesbury posted 4 wins and 2 losses
leading up to the final game of the year at
Eynesbury. Needing a 5-2 win to make the final
against Patterson River Eynesbury powered to
a victory on home soil winning 6-1 in a euphoric
day for Eynesbury Golf.
Andrew Crosby holed a telling 10 foot putt
on the 18th to win 1 up to seal the victory for
Eynesbury with players celebrating well into the
evening.
With the top 2 being promoted to Division 4,
Eynesbury could relax into the final against
Patterson River , held at Latrobe Golf Club. The
final was tight all the way with Drew Heath in his
1st game playing at number 1 narrowly losing
on the 18th hole to see Eynesbury go down in
the tightest of results 4 matches to 3.
Despite the disappointment of the final the
season was a massive positive for the team
as they head into Division 4 next year with a
solid squad and some junior potential led by

May Golf Tip - Short Chipping
The most common fault amongst golfers with a
short chip is too much wrist movement. Over a
short chip there should be very little wrist action
(see Pic 1- correct wrist action). Remember
chipping is similar to putting, except the ball
lifts in the air for a short time and most of the
distance the ball is rolling to the target. The
further the shot is, some wrist action is OK, but
generally your hands shouldn’t pass your hip
on the follow through. (see picture 2- incorrect
position of too much wrist action)
Too much wrist action causes inconsistency
in ball striking and control is taken away from
the player with inconsistent spin and distance
control.
On the other side we don’t want to over
exaggerate this and become stiff through
the arms and wrist, it should just be a natural
movement similar to throwing a ball underarm
with the arms swinging smoothly without
tension.
