Toddler 2 - Hiland Child Care Center

Hiland Happenings
Hiland Child Care Center

Spring 2015
From the Directors
The warm weather is finally here and the staff and the
children are loving it!! Our classrooms have the
opportunity to venture outdoors every day (weather
permitting) to play, exercise and picnic with their
teachers and friends. You will be noticing some new
staff faces working with your children throughout
these summer months. Matt, Kara, Allison and Eva
will be assisting the teachers and helping them with
their programs. Please make sure to introduce
yourselves to them. Kylie is also back with us for most
of this summer for a couple days each week. We
certainly are glad to have her here!!
We raised almost $600.00 through our spring Sarris
fundraiser. We used this money to paint the Early
Learner room. We are calling it the “Blue Room”. It
looks great! We will also be purchasing some outdoor
play equipment/toys for the children to have fun with
while on the playgrounds. We hope that each and
every one of our families enjoy a fun, safe and
relaxing summer.
Some important reminders: Parent/Teacher phone
conferences will be held the week of June 1-June 5.
Our staff check the children for ticks every time we
come in from outside. News reports tell us that these
pesky little ticks are quite prevalent in this area, so we
are asking that you also take time to check your
children at home. Together we can help to keep the
children safe.
Hiland will be closed Monday, May 25, 2015 and
Friday, July 3, 2015. Please mark your calendars.
If you have any questions, joys or concerns you would
like to share with us please feel free to give us a call or
stop in the office. You are always welcome!
Enjoy the spring and summer months. May you be
renewed and refreshed!!

Baby Room
As the hot summer days are
approaching, we would like to
remind parents to take your
child’s winter clothes home and
bring in extra summer clothes. Be
sure to have everything labeled
with your child’s name on it so
we know who it belongs to! If
you would like to provide
sunscreen for us to put on your
child please feel free to bring that
in and sign our permit.
We would like to give our new
friends a warm welcome.
Caroline Ehehalt and Lydia
Pullen have joined the baby
room and are doing really well
with their new friends. We are
going to be going outside for
walks daily and we have many
fun activities planned for our
summer at Hiland. If you have
any other questions please feel
free to ask any one of us!

Toddler 1
Toddler one is so excited that the
warmer weather is finally here!
Please be sure to exchange winter
clothing with summer clothing in
your child’s cubby. We will be
going to play outdoors every day
as long as the heat index is not
above 90 degrees. We will also
be applying sunscreen prior to
going outdoors so please make
sure your child has unexpired
sunscreen on site at Hiland.
We will be saying good-bye to
Faye, Ashton and Dillon. Ashton
and Dillon will be moving to
Toddler Two and Faye is moving
out of the Pittsburgh area. They
will be missed! A big welcome
will be given to Zachery who will
be moving up to our room from
the infant room on June 1st.
This summer we are excited to
explore the outdoors, have water
fun days as well as celebrate our
summer holidays. We always
enjoy learning and growing with
your children!
-Melissa, Emily and Jill
Toddler 2
Let’s flip-flop into summer!
Toddler 2 will be
welcoming Ashton and
Dillon as well as saying
good-bye to Lucca and
Dakota who are moving up
to the Early Learner Room.
This summer we will be
learning about summer
safety, ocean animals,
vacations, the 4th of July
and the pledge of allegiance.
We will be spending a lot of
time outside weather
permitting. Toddler 2 will
be participating in water
play days and enjoying
some picnic lunches
outside.
For water days, please
make sure your child has a
bathing suit, towel, water
shoes and a change of
clothes. During the
summer months we will
make sure your child has
sunscreen on before going
outdoors. We will also be
taking the water pitcher
and Dixie cups with us so
the children can drink
plenty of water on those
hot sunny days. Toddler 2
children will not need to
bring in water bottles this
summer since we will be
using the cups instead. We
look forward to having a
great time with your
children this summer.
Enjoy the season!!

Early Learners
Welcome again to our room. Our
room has changed so much these
past couple of months. The kids
really like the new carpet, the tile,
and the newly painted blue walls.
These changes have been really
exciting to watch take place. This
summer we will be welcoming
new Early Learners, Dakota
Miller and Lucca Porco. We are
very lucky for these new friends
to come to our room and look
forward to a great summer with
our old and new friends.
We will be discussing summer
safety. The children are very
excited about going outside. We
are looking forward to our
weekly water and sand play and
there will be reminders going out
about these days. Even though it
is getting hot out, please do not
bring water bottles for your
children. We will be taking water
pitchers outside with us and
plenty of cups so they stay well
hydrated during our outside play.
Even though it is summer, we
will still be working on
reviewing letters, numbers,
shapes and colors in fun ways.
Along with these topics, we will
be discussing things such as
Father’s Day, oceans, beach life,
space, Fourth of July, Fairly Tales,
Folk Tales and Nursery Rhymes.
We will also be having picnics
outside on our playground from
time to time this summer.
We appreciate that you would
discuss these things with your
children at home as well. Please
remember that since the weather
has changed, the clothes in their
cubbies need to change as well.
We are required by the state to be
outside every day unless the heat
index is above 90 degrees or
precipitating.
One last reminder: We do ask
that the children bring only one
home toy each day due to items
not fitting in their cubbies. We
really appreciate all of your
cooperation as we look forward
to a great summer with all of our
Early Learner families.

School Age
Greetings from the Garret. Warm
weather is fast approaching,
which means our summer
program is ready to go!
This summer, we will be
studying different subjects such
as Space and Nature! We have
added some new clubs and some
exciting field trips for the kids.
Also new this summer, is our
End of the Summer Picnic at
North Park. Look for your
invitations in the mail.
As always, please make sure to
call the center if your child will
not be here on any particular day.
Every child needs to have a
labeled lunch with an ice pack
inside. Any toys that your child
will be bringing with them needs
to be labeled (especially D.S.
Games) and can be no bigger
than a shoe box.
As always please let us know if
you have any questions and we
look forward to a wonderful
summer with all of our children!
