Display the POWER POINT of reflections at the next pep rally or assembly Call me in to help talk to teachers/principals/counselors, etc. Reflections Rules, Age Groups and Award Levels All Rules are at TXPTA.ORG • Depending on the school they might be able to create their project at school or only at home • All fliers, copies, etc. and recognition at the local level come from your local PTA budget • At the council level, recognition is from my budget • On your fliers, I’d advise directing students to the web rules at TXPTA.ORG. Because there are separate rules for each category Judging Age Groups • • • • • Pre-K – 2 primary 3-5 Intermediate 6-8 Middle School 9-12 High School Special Artists Award Levels • Award of Excellence – “the best entry in each grade division and arts category” – advances to council – 20% local to Council – up to 30 entries to state - Texas PTA • Awards of Merit – good but doesn’t advance • Honorable Mention – usually the break between considered for Award of Excellence but still need to be recognized for more then participation • Participation Award – most are in this category Local Entries • At the local level, you determine where entries are stored and submitted • Make sure each entry follows the rules • At the day of judging, I can help in anyway or at your awards ceremony..if needed? • Also, if you are busy and need help at a campus, please call/text 214-729-5142, I’m more than willing to help out. Deadlines and Judging DEADLINES • FROM FRIDAY NOVEMBER 7TH ALL ENTRIES DUE NO SLIPPING THIS DEADLINE • You need your local judging to be done by November 19th and turn in your 20% of your entries for the council judging to determine who goes to state • By the 19th I need your ribbon order forms – who gets “Award of Excellence” (top 20%) , “Award of Merit”, “Honorable Mention” and “Participation” DEADLINES • The first and second week of December PTA Council will judge who to submit to state • A CELEBRATION AT THE LOCAL LEVEL NEEDS TO HAPPEN BEFORE THE WINTER BREAK – The ribbons should be in by then - you design a time at an assembly or afterhours to recognize students, present them with ribbons and certificates by you and their principals – and unless they are going to council give back their artworks. Judging at local level • Make sure it is fair • No teachers, parents, etc, that might know a child be allowed to judge • All names should be concealed – for example a letter/number system used for entries looks like: Willow Springs = WS1, WS2, etc. Sloan would be SC1, SC2, etc. • Use the letter/number system as entries on your spreadsheet next to their names and only WS1, etc on the back of the artwork • For every artwork going to council, I request a copy of the full student entry, you should have one as well and a half entry copy (folded over or just cut in half) which conceals the name should be on the artwork. Summary You are responsible for…. • • • • • • • Advertising and getting the word out – posters, copies in folders, newsletters, social media, assemblies, tell moms and dads!!! etc. Finding judges and holding a local judging between the deadline November 7th and the council deadline for entries November 19th Tracking on-line and turning in the spreadsheet of entries that goes to the council level to me for your school on November 19th Getting to me your ribbon order on or before the 19th of November Setting up celebration parties at your school before the winter break Making sure entries that are going to council level – 20% in each category meet the rules per TXPTA.org At the council level ceremony in February: announcing, presenting and giving recognition to those who did not go to state but should be recognized for their excellence and participation The Little Things Matter • Wherever you can keep the chatter going about the Reflections theme – social media, announcements, newsletters, the high school paper, posters, etc. • At the Sloan, Willow and LHS levels, this year we need more coordination with the teachers and principals – some arts/music teachers are at several schools • For Spanish as a second language, lets make sure those teachers have entry forms in Spanish. • For special needs children, lets make sure they know as well their teachers that they have a separate category and their students can enter at every level and in one or more categories. • The Lovejoy community reflects and embraces all • LETS MAKE SURE WE DON’T LEAVE ANYONE OUT!!!
