Tips to help your family be active every day: Make indoor and outdoor play part of your child’s daily routine. Try simple games at home that don’t need adults, such as dancing to music, or building with boxes. Plan for the whole family to be active on a weekly basis. For example, visit a favourite or new play area. As a family, make a list of active play ideas to try when your child is bored or has been inactive for too long. Collect simple play items, such as balls, bats, buckets or ribbons for your child to make up their own games. Let your child help with tasks around the home, such as gardening or sweeping. Try to make tasks fun and challenging. Be a role model for your child by being active in your own life. Supervise outdoor play but allow children to make up their own new movements, which can be a lot of fun. ‘Filling the Gaps’ is a partner program of Kids –’Go for your life’, which is managed by Cancer Council Victoria and Diabetes Australia – Vic. ‘Filling the Gaps’ is managed by The Royal Children’s Hospital, in collaboration with Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and the Australian Catholic University. www.goforyourlife.vic.gov.au/kids "SBCJD&OH www.goforyourlife.vic.gov.au/kids &OH"SBCJD Enjoy helping your child be active every day ‘Filling the Gaps’ is a partner program of Kids –’Go for your life’, which is managed by Cancer Council Victoria and Diabetes Australia – Vic. ‘Filling the Gaps’ is managed by The Royal Children’s Hospital, in collaboration with Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and the Australian Catholic University.
