 READING/SPELLING:
Please see the Family Times booklet in the Homework baggie for
information about what reading and phonics skills will be taught next week.

Game to play: See Family Times – pg. 2, 3 and 4. You can also play Reading Eggs on the computer at
home.
WRITING/LANGUAGE ARTS:
-We will continue writing an Opinion Piece in writing. Over the next few weeks we will be writing

a piece where students give their opinion on their favorite season.
-Verbs without –s – We will be learning about verbs (action words) that do not have –s added
to the end of the word. When the noun in a sentence is plural (more than one), we do not
need to add –s to the end of the verb. For example, if the sentence were about one mouse,
we might say “The mouse eats the cheese.” We added an –s to the end because it is about
one mouse. If the sentence were about more than one mouse, we might say “The mice ate
the cheese.” Since the word “mice” is plural, we do not add an –s to the end of the verb.

 HOMEWORK:
Each child must complete 60 minutes of reading with an adult outside of class.
Please read the book in the homework bag and choose any other books of your choice to
reach the goal of 60 minutes for the week. Your child can read to you or you may take turns
reading with him/her. The reading log is a part of the homework, it must be returned and
signed. There is also a math worksheet that needs to be completed. In your child’s homework
bag you will find a fluency letter. This is a very important skill for first grade. This will now be part
of the weekly homework. Please have your child read the story, as you’re timing him/her for 1
minute. Our goal is that your child increases words per minute each day. Homework is due in
the homework bag on THURSDAY, February 25th.
