School Games Organiser (SGO) Main Professional Scale JOB SPECIFICATION MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibility for getting as many state and independent schools as possible to take part in the School Games and then to deepen their involvement and engagement in the competition. Work with School Games Local Organising Committees to ensure clear links are in place to enable young people to progress between levels 1 and 2. Ensure the development of a cultural component to the School Games Develop the workforce of teachers, non-teaching staff, parents, volunteers, and particularly young leaders, required to activate the School Games at all levels Sustain/grow the network of Change4life sports clubs in secondary schools and establish a network of Change4life sports clubs in primary schools, building opportunities for these young people to progress into Levels 1 and 2 of the School Games Develop a local workforce of “Active Lifestyle Coaches” in schools to identify the least active young people and engage them in appropriate activity Provide access to specialist coaches, training and equipment to assist schools (and particularly primary/special schools) in delivering a range of lunchtime and after school programmes Ensure the provision of both inclusive and targeted opportunities for young disabled people to access the school Games, including the staging of specific “Paralympic themed” local events Support young people to access quality coaching, progress to higher level competition and move into clubs by working closely with CSPs and NGBs of sport, including aligning with NGB competition calendars and implementing NGB priority competition formats in as many schools as possible Line Manager: Curriculum Leader for PE at Bulmershe School Liaising with: Curriculum Leader for PE and the Headteacher Other schools: “SSCO’s” or appointed link persons and the Headteacher of each school Working time: 193 Pupil days per year (0.6 or 3 days a week) Holidays in line with Wokingham Borough Policy Salary/Grade: Main Pay Scale 4 - £17, 839.80 pa Main Core Duties: to operate within agreed School Policies To promote School Games level 1 in Primary Schools, establishing a coherent programme of intra school competitions across primaries. Providing a gateway to level 2 inter school sport. Teacher release involvement for their feeder schools Establish a network committee between Primary, Special and Secondary Schools. Ensure there are clear pathways between levels, continuity across primaries and common objectives Establish a clear framework or Inter-school competitions in Primary, Special and Secondary Schools in the calendar. Focus on inclusion and opportunity Provision for competitive games for less able pupils. Inter school events with a focus on more pupils experiencing competitive sport at level 2. Promotion through intra school competitions. Inclusive festivals for all pupils Promotion of broader range of sports: agreed by the partnership and primaries. Including disabled provision and new activities (wheelchair basketball, cycling, handball, lacrosse) Disabled/Paralympic provision and awareness improved. Festivals and coaching to promote this. Sustain/grow the network of Change4life sports clubs in secondary schools and establish a network of Change4life sports clubs in primary schools, building opportunities for these young people to progress into levels 1 and 2 of the School Games Ensure the development of a cultural component to the School Games Provision of sports festivals at Level 3 for primaries and secondary schools. Including winter and summer festivals focusing on new/alternative activities Professional Development opportunities: helping teachers deliver more advanced methods of coaching in secondary to progress to level 3. Potential for specialist teachers in the partnership to host workshops. A, G and T provision accounted for. NGB involvement in schools across the partnership. Camps and specialist days. Liaise and develop links with other SGO’s to establish clear pathways to level 3 and beyond Leadership Academy: A, G and T leaders to come together to deliver “new activities” in primaries and in School. A, G and T leaders to have access to leadership opportunities Club Links: Establish a network of contacts and pathways for pupils to go into a local and county level. Clubs to promote their activities at grassroots level. Officiating Academy: to have more secondary pupils officiating in sport. Workshops for different sports and opportunities to gain officiating badges. To provide level 3 competitions within the partnership hosted by SGO. National Governing body involvement providing specialist coaching at both levels. Including staff training and professional development to deliver predetermined activities. Opportunities for staff to gain NGB coaching qualifications. Liaise and develop links with other SGO’s to establish clear pathways to level 3 and beyond.
