Since 2012
Creative Kids Gets Visitors!
Lily and Riley make play-doh apples as a way to
help learn their numbers and hone counting skills!
How can you help?
It’s National Fire Safety Week
and the kids learned all about
being safe around fire. Talk to
your family about what to do if
there is a fire. Make a plan and
choose a meeting point outside
of your house. Try to pick a spot
where kids won’t have to cross a
busy road and where they are
not too close to danger. Talk
about the routes to take to get
out and watch your child open
his or her bedroom window. It’s
important to know if they can lift
it. Firefighters taught them today
to wave a pillow or sheet out
their window if there was fire
outside their door. Practice
crawling through the house, too!
This week Creative Kids
students had one exciting day
after another. We began the
excitement last Friday with a
visit from singer/songwriter
MaryLu Walker. MaryLu sang
songs with us and our kiddos
sang just as many to her! She
loved our school.
On Tuesday afternoon, we
had a visit from Pastor Gary
from the First Baptist Church.
He spoke about the many
ways he helps people as a
Pastor, as a Habitat For
Humanity builder, and as the
Chaplain for the Painted Post
Fire Dept.
On Wednesday we met Mr.
Pierson from the Town of
Erwin who told the kids all
about how he keeps the
roads and their playground in
good shape. Miss Kristy’s
Uncle David came with his
big school bus and the
students piled on for a lesson
in bus safety! They heard his
radio go off to and learned a
bit about being a volunteer
fire fighter!
On
Thursday,
Mrs.
McKendrick brought in tons
of props for our Hospital
Center to help show what a
nurse does!
More
visitors
are
scheduled for next week!
New Centers Mean LOTS of Fun Learning!
This week, we modified our centers to make them different
locations within our community! The children are constantly
engaged in creative play and are learning so much about the
jobs in our community, what needs and wants are, how to
work with each other, and much, much more! Here’s a taste
of our centers:
Transportation = Train station
Sensory = Construction and work bench
Dramatic Play = Restaurant and a Fire Station
complete with truck!
Doll house area = Hospital or Vet
Writing Center = Post Office, complete with Mail system!
At the tables: Bakery, Tailor, Artists, and more!
Reminder! Thursday, Oct 18th we’ll be visiting the pumpkin
patch--- leave your booster or car seat for your child. If you
have a complicated one, let us know- Kristy has some extra
booster seats available, just in case!
Community helpers is extended!
Since the kids are getting so much out of this unit and this week
just felt WAY too short, we’ve extended Community helpers into
next week. We will meet a police detective, a florist, and more
community friends! Mr. Tallman has invited us to his store which
will be LOTS of fun! We will also try to get a representative from
the railroad to talk about safety around train tracks.
If you have any suggestions for more community helpers, please
let us know!
Matthew and Samantha return to the fire
house after putting out a fire at the hospital!
Upcoming Themes!
One more week of Community Helpers!...
...Pumpkins…
…Monsters and not-so-scary things!
Who are the people in your neighborhood? TIP: Introduce the kids to the neighbors they can go to for help
if they need it. Kids are often taught not to talk to strangers…do your kids know the neighbors ? Often
neighbors are the first to respond in an emergency and could provide comfort if they are familiar to a child.
