This summer, experience adventure in the great outdoors by hiking,
conducting science experiments, and visiting LSNC's resident raptors
and critters. Create art, make music, write stories, and enjoy the
summer sunshine. Every day has opportunities to learn new skills like
fire-building or animal tracking, and make new friends as you hike the
trails, play scatter ball or search for creatures in Black Pond.
Check out our new theme schedule that offers our most popular themes
several times so everyone can have their first choice! LSNC’s dynamic
summer camp includes sessions for campers in ages four through fifth
grades. Campers who have completed 2nd and 3rd grade enjoy an
off-site field trip, and nearly every 4th and 5th grade camp has a field
trip and an onsite overnight. For the first time, LSNC will offer three
full-day “Tykes” camp sessions for preschool and young 5 campers.
This includes campers who are 4 or 5 years old by the first day of
camp, including those who have completed a Young 5s program. Tykes
campers must be able to use the bathroom and wash their hands
independently.

Whether you've been to LSNC one or 100 times, adventure and
discovery await you this summer!
About the staff
LSNC's Camp staff is a diverse, qualified and experienced team of
educators who work together to design activities that are creative,
fun and educational while providing ample opportunities to build
meaningful relationships with our campers.
Member Pricing
One of the benefits of being a member at LSNC is a discounted rate
and early registration for your child at Summer Day Camp. Visit www.
lesliesnc.org/membership for more information.
Camp Cool Down Extended Care
Based on family feedback, LSNC will offer extended day sessions
every week of camp. Camp Cool Down (3:30-5:30 p.m.) is designed to
accommodate working families’ schedules, and provides campers with
an opportunity to unwind from the standard camp day (8:30 a.m.-3:30
p.m.) by playing games, making art, and otherwise relaxing outside,
and provides families with a later pick up time. Please be advised that
Tykes (preschool and young fives) campers are not eligible for Camp
Cool Down.
Volunteer Opportunities for Teens
Spend some of your summer in the great outdoors when you volunteer
at LSNC’s Summer Camp! Must be 13-17 years old in the 2017 summer
to apply. Volunteers commit to working at least two weeks of camp.
Join other teens from throughout the Ann Arbor area as you develop
new leadership skills, gain valuable work experience, and learn about
Michigan's natural history and ecology. That's not all—camp volunteers
also get to hike the trails, participate in field trips, and play camp
favorites like Wolf Pack, Camouflage and Scatterball!

Golf meets soccer in this exciting new sport of FootGolf! This new
sport is fun, easy to play and something all ages can enjoy. FootGolf
originated in the Netherlands and has spread over 16 countries
throughout the world. Similar to golf, rules and etiquette remain the
same. For game play, the players’ intent is to kick a #5 soccer ball into
the hole with the least amount of strokes (kicks) possible. FootGolf uses
the basic model of Golf, with a tee box, greens, bunkers, hazards and
nine or 18 holes of play. The cups, however, are 21 inches in diameter.
Huron Hills has 18 FootGolf holes integrated throughout the front seven
regulation golf holes. The yardage of the holes are smaller than golf,
but trust us when we say the challenge is greater!
Book a tee time
FootGolf is offered on limited days and times (times may change
throughout the year, so please call too confirm). Tuesdays, Thursdays,
Saturdays and Sundays after 3 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for
children 17 and under. Ball rentals are available for $3.
Visit the Huron Hills website at www.a2golf.org for more information
about the course, rates or to see instruction videos about this new
sport and its rules. Tee times can be booked seven days in advance
by calling 734.794.6246. Please note: our FootGolf program is great
for birthday parties, student groups, fraternity/sorority events, soccer
club fundraisers, leagues, corporate outings and even more! For more
information on our group rates or to start your own FootGolf league
please contact Doug Kelly, Director of Golf, at [email protected].
Not quite sure about FootGolf yet, come on to the “The First FootGolf
Kick Off,” event on Saturday May 6 at 2 p.m., and those interested in
trying the sport can play a 18-hole round for free (tee times and your
own equipment is highly recommended). We look forward to seeing
you.

2017 Swimming pool information
The City of Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation is part of the
USA Swimming Foundation’s water safety initiative, Make
a Splash. The USA Swimming Foundation launched Make
a Splash in 2007 with the goal to teach every child to learn
to swim. We aim to spread awareness of the importance to
learn to swim and be safe around water. As a Make a Splash
local partner, we are dedicated to providing quality swim
instruction and the common goal of saving lives and getting children in better
shape.
Waterslide Information
The city operates two waterslides, one at Fuller Park Pool and at Veterans
Memorial Park Pool. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall to ride the
waterslides. We cannot allow more than one person on the slide at a time. The
waterslides will be on during all public swim times except during tot splash
and adult lap swim.
Inclement Weather Policy
Buhr and Veterans Memorial park pools may remain closed if the day’s
forecasted high temperature is below 65 degrees. When the pools are open
and there are less than 10 swimmers over a one-hour period and staff
does not expect more swimmers, the pools may close for the day. In order
to accommodate patrons wishing to swim regardless of cooler weather
conditions, Fuller Park Pool will remain open. Electrical storm activity could
result in closures at any time. Each pool will close for thunder and lightning
and reopen as the weather allows. Swim lessons are held rain or shine.
Safety Information
Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an individual at least 16
years old. Children who are not toilet trained must be in diapers with tightfitting rubber pants or a swim diaper (available for purchase at each pool).
For everyone’s safety, smoking, alcohol, glass containers and inflatable toys
are prohibited. Any type of flotation device must be Coast Guard approved
(Coast Guard seal must be on it). Swimmers under age 16 must pass a swim
test prior to swimming in the deep end at each pool.
Summer Season Pass Pricing
Summer season passes are valid from May 27-Sept. 4, 2017. Season passes
can be used at Buhr, Fuller and Veterans Memorial park pools for all public

they will focus on drills that will improve your technique and strength in
the water. These clinics are for adult swimmers only and will be capped
at six swimmers with two instructors. (Preregistration required)
TRI Clinic schedule

Adopt-A-Park
Do you have a favorite park that you walk and play in? Volunteers play
an integral role maintaining our parks, and we would love for you to
get involved! Park adopters can do a variety of beautification efforts
in partnership with the Adopt-a-Park program: flower bed care and
planting, landscaping maintenance, weeding of play areas, mulching
around trees and more. We coordinate with you to provide the tools and
resources. Individuals and groups are welcome! Contact our Adopt-aPark coordinator at 734.794.6445 or [email protected]. For
more information, check out www.a2gov.org/adopt-a-park.
NEW! We are partnering with Leslie Science and Nature Center to
recruit volunteers and promote their Adopt-A-Garden program as
well. So many ways to get involved! Leslie Science & Nature Center’s
Adopt-A-Garden is a volunteer activity where organizations, groups,
or individuals “adopt” a garden on LSNC’s grounds. The adoptive
individual or group is responsible for planting and maintaining the
garden during the spring, summer, and fall. Adopters need to provide
all planting materials, tools, energy, time, and enthusiasm! Adopting
a garden is a great way to promote your organization and become
closer with your peers! Kick-off to the season starts in April with a kick
off orientation meeting. The adoptive group is responsible for planting
and maintaining the bed during the spring, summer, and fall. If you or
your group would like to Adopt-A-Garden, please read through and
complete the application found at www.lesliesnc.org/adopt-garden

4251 stone school road • www.a2gov.org/urbanforestry | www.a2gov.org/trees
Forestry is responsible for the care of public trees in Ann Arbor’s urban
and community forest which includes more than 43,000 street trees and
thousands of trees located in city parks. Forestry, with assistance from
the Dean Fund, provides services including tree trimming, removal and
planting.
Street-trees planting occurs during two planting seasons each year, fall
and spring. Trees are planted in areas of the city most lacking in tree
canopy; areas to be planted during the fall 2016 planting season can be
found in the Tree Planting Plan on the forestry website, www.a2gov.org/
urbanforestry.com. Trees planted on rights-of-way are chosen by the
forestry unit for species diversity, size and hardiness. Citizens may plant
trees in the right-of-way by using a prequalified nursery and obtaining a
free forestry permit from the city. Eligible citizens may claim a charitable
donation up to $1,000 to be applied to their federal income tax. For more

trees or call 734.794.6000.
Tree trimming, removal and other maintenance needs are identified
by citizen requests and by the comprehensive public tree inventory.
Public tree inventory data is posted on the city’s website. For updated
information on the forestry program, including tree planting, tree
inventory data and the urban and community forest management plan,
visit www.a2gov.org/urbanforestry.
The Elizabeth Dean Tree Fund
In 1964, Elizabeth Dean willed nearly $2 million to “be held in a separate
fund by the City of Ann Arbor and the income thereof to be used
to repair, maintain and replace trees on city property.” The annual
interest income generated by the Dean Trust is utilized to provide tree
services that benefit the urban forest and, consequently, the Ann Arbor
community. The Dean Fund Committee welcomes citizen requests
for special tree-planting and maintenance projects. To request an
application and copy of project guidelines or for questions, call Kerry
Gray, urban forestry and natural resource planner, at 734.794.6000 ext.
43703.
Park and public space maintenance
The park system is highly valued by citizens and enhances urban
living within Ann Arbor. The park and public space maintenance unit is
responsible for maintenance of city parks, including mowing, playground
repairs, all athletic fields, 52 miles of multi-use path maintenance
including snow and ice control, shelters, building maintenance of all
recreation facilities and Fairview Cemetery. Noticeable enhancements
are taking place as a result of the Park Maintenance and Capital

system makes it quick and simple to notify City Hall of problems in our
community. This website, iPhone and Android app provides users the
ability to track service requests — their own as well as others — and be
notified when issues are resolved. The app’s GPS will recognize your
location and has an easy-to-navigate menu of common issues. Just
click on “Report a Problem” at www.a2gov.org or visit your app store
and search “A2 Fix It.” Users are able to report missed cart pickups, dark
street lights, street tree problems, sidewalk hazards, clogged storm
drains, graffiti, missing traffic signs and more.

Greenbelt
In November 2003, Ann Arbor residents
voted overwhelmingly in favor of the Open
Space and Parkland Preservation Millage,
commonly referred to as the Greenbelt
Millage. The Greenbelt Millage is a 30-year,
0.5 mil tax levy. A portion of the funding is
used to purchase new city parkland and a
portion is used to protect farmland and open
space outside of the city, within the Greenbelt
District.
Since the millage passed in 2003, an additional 71.99 acres have been
added to the city’s park system. Collectively, these parcels have helped
to provide linkages between existing parks, added to existing parks and
protected some of the remaining critical urban natural areas.
To date, the Greenbelt Program has protected over 4,750 acres of
farmland and open space surrounding the city of Ann Arbor, and has
leveraged the city’s funds with an additional $23 million from grants,
landowner donations and other locally funded programs.
Our local partners have included Ann Arbor Township, Legacy Land
Conservancy, Lodi Township, Scio Township, Pittsfield Township,
Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy, Washtenaw County Parks and
Recreation and Webster Township.
For more information, contact Ruth Thornton at 734.794.6210, email

The Cobblestone Farm house, completed in 1845, was originally a twofamily home. Dr. Benajah Ticknor, a U.S. Naval surgeon, and Heman
Ticknor, whig politician and farmer, shared occupancy of this classic
revival structure with their families. Being restored and interpreted
to reflect its mid-19th century
appearance, the site provides a
view of past rural life in Washtenaw
County.
Today, the site is administered
through Ann Arbor Parks and
Recreation Services with support
from the Cobblestone Farm
Association.
The Cobblestone Farm Association
is a (501c3), nonprofit, volunteer
organization that maintains
the farmhouse and its material
collections for the public. The
association maintains and restores the historic interiors, mounts exhibits,
provides educational programming and conducts guided tours of the
museum.
Tours of the museum farmhouse are arranged by appointment. For more
