To Non-profit Organizations,
On March 17, 2014 amendments to Ordinance No. 2707 were adopted by the City of Las Cruces City
Council. As a result, the current process for business registrations of non-profit organizations has
changed.
An organization claiming non-profit status under the Internal Revenue Code will no longer be assessed a
registration fee. For the purpose of ensuring the structure occupied and activities conducted comply with
applicable fire, building, and other city codes and ordinances, the organization will need to provide the
following information to the Community Development Department within seven days of taking
occupancy of any physical structure other than a personal residence.

The name of the individual, group, entity, or organization;
The address if the individual, group, entity or organization;
Dates and time of operation;
Point of contact for the group, entity, or organization;
The basis for claiming non-profit status.
The notification required shall be made on a one-time basis, unless (1) the organization moves to a new
location within Las Cruces city limits or (2) the organization commences a substantially new activity to
the extent that the non-profit would have to pay gross receipt tax for that activity.
Existing organizations presently claiming non-profit status shall provide the notification to the
Community Development Department with 180 days following the adoption of the amendments to this
ordinance.
