IL-10 production by allergen-specific T cells has been suggested as one of the main regulatory mechanisms. This was supported indirectly by in vivo observations in mice treated with IL-10 neutralizing mAb, in which the beneficial effects of immunotherapy were largely abrogated. However IL-10 is secreted by a variety of different cell types and the formal proof that T cell derived IL-10 is required for successful immunotherapy is still lacking.
