WHEN I GET ALL GROWN UP PROPS/EQUIPMENT: Some costumes would add to the performance, but they are not necessary. DETAILS: The performers line up side by side in front of the audience and sing the chorus together. Then the first person says the last line of the chorus (which identifies his or her part) and then does his part twice in rhythmic style, and then everyone joins in together on the chorus. Then the next person identifies his part (rhythmically), says his part in rhythmic style 4 times ... twice by himself and twice with the first person, who joined in after the second time. Again everyone sings the chorus. The third person then identifies his part, then begins saying his part and says it 6 times... twice by himself, twice with person #2, and twice with both people #1 and #2. (Part of the cleverness of this performance is the result of each person starting and stopping at the right time.) This same process of singing and saying the individual parts continues until the last person has said his part and the chorus is sung by the whole group. The last line of the chorus is added for the ending of the performance. Each performer's identification line is said only once during the entire performance and that time comes the first time he performs his individual part. Each individual part is to be said rhythmically so all of the performers can stay together even though they are saying different things. Each individual part also has a set of actions that go with it. Here are some possible parts (with their actions). You could use your own creativity to add to the list. TOGETHER: “When I get all grown up, I’ll tell you what I’d be… When I get all grown up… 1. Farmer (kneels down and milks with rhythm) “Come on Bessy give. The childrens gotsta live!” 2. Stewardess - "Here's your coffee (both hands to the left as if serving), here's your tea (both hands to the right), here's your plastic bag." (Hold an imaginary bag in front of you and say "bluck" as if you were sick.) 3. Burger Man - "French fries (hold out left hand as if serving), milk shakes (hold out right hand), a double burger, squish."(Form an imaginary burger in your hands in front of you and then put it under your armpit with one hand and move your arm as if "squishing" a burger.) 4. Ice Cream Man - (with hands clasped in front of you as if stirring a large kettle) "Ooshi, gooshi, ooshi, gooshi, good ice cream." 5. Pizza Man - "I-like-a-the-pizza (form left fingers into an OK sign), I-like-a-thepie (form right fingers into OK sign), no like-a-the-onions, they make-a-me-cry." (Wipe eyes with hands.) 6. Bird Watcher (look up like you have binoculars. On the "splat" slap your hand on your face like something just fell on it) “Hark! A lark flying through the park. SPLAT!” 7. Football Player (flexes with as many poses fathomable) “Hustle, hustle, feel my muscle! Hustle, hustle, feel my muscle!” 8. Police Man (poses with a gun motion sweeping the crowd) “Stop! Don't move! I'll send you straight to jail!” 9. Baby Doll - "A Baby Doll I'd Be. Mommy (extend left arm), Daddy (extend right arm), I love you." (Bring in each arm in a mechanical-looking hugging motion and make a kissing sound.) 10. Window Washer - "Wash-a-window (move either hand in front of you in a washing motion), wash-a-window (washing motion with the other hand), climb the ladder, *spit." (Climb a pretend ladder and make a spitting sound.) FINISH: But when I get all grown up, (SPEAK) I guess I'll just be me. Cassi (Farmer), Anneliese (Stewardess), David (Burger), Lois (Ice Cream), Aaron (Pizza), Shannon (Bird Watcher), Alex (Football), Dylan (Police), Kelly (Baby Doll), Daniel (Window)
