Mrs. Vagt’s Class Third Grade Canyon Creek February 6, 2017 Things we learned last week: Reading: Third graders this week learned how to use the text’s structure to hold onto meaning. We also practiced how to summarize narrative nonfiction. Readers also strengthened different strategies to use when tackling difficult words in nonfiction texts. Writing: Our class continued our study of informational texts. We practiced balancing our facts and ideas in our writing. Students also used computers to research facts to add to our informational texts. During word study, students were introduced to a new word sort and they practiced sorting and writing these words. We continued our study of cursive during handwriting by practicing the letter j. Math: Students further practiced elapsed time. We went over our quick quiz and discussed confusions. Students also began solving problems with pictographs and bar graphs. Science: Our class completed our study of life systems with Mrs. Burkett and began a new science unit about rocks and minerals with Ms. Nuss. Valentine’s Day Celebration Thank you to those parents who signed up to bring in a snack item for our Valentine’s Day party! You can send the item to school with your child the morning of the 14th. Also, thank you to those parents who have volunteered to help during the party! We are still looking for a few more parents to help run a game and craft station during the party from 12:30-1:30. Please let me know if you are able to help with one of these stations. Thank you!
