Dear Parents and Carers,
Maths Week - 6th- 10th February.
During Maths Week one area we will thinking about is how traditional board and card games can help us
improve our mathematical skills and thinking. Please look out any games you might have at home like
snakes and ladders, ludo, draughts, chess and packs of cards and start to play these with your children.
Sharing games like this will also help your child’s social skills, learning to take turns, talking and
listening to others, accepting that they cannot always win! So turn off the TV, ipad and computer and
have some fun family games nights.
On Wednesday 8th February there will be the opportunity to come into school and play board and card
games with your children; we will text you the exact time later.
Mr Custance
As part of Mr Custance’s year of teacher training he is required to spend time in another school; after
half term he will be spending the half term at Great Barford Lower School, in return Miss McKay, a
trainee teacher on the same course will be joining us to take on the same role in Class 2 as Mr Custance.
Miss McKay will visit us on Wednesday next week. We welcome her to Hockliffe Lower School and
wish her a happy and rewarding half term with us.
Uniform
During these winter days if your children wear warm boots or wellingtons to school please ensure that
they have a pair of shoes or plimsolls to change into when they are inside. Please remember our school
colours are blue and children should wear a jumper/ cardigan/ fleece of this colour; hairbands should also
be in school colours. There is a list of the expectations for uniform for the school on the website or in the
Parents’ Handbook which you were given when your child started, or there is a copy by the indoor
parents’ noticeboard,
Buggies
Please remember that we ask that no buggies be brought into the school as these are cumbersome and
block the corridor when children are moving around organising their equipment.
Change of Date
As a result of other commitments I am afraid I have had to postpone the parents’ meeting -Helping your
Child with Reading, this will now be on Thursday 2nd March at 2.30pm. Mrs Surgett will be at the
meeting to talk about reading with older children so please come along whatever the age of your child.
My apologies for any inconvienience this change of date may have caused.
School breaks up for half term holiday on Friday 10th February and begins again on Monday 20th
February.
Yours sincerely
Mrs N.Benger
