COMMUNITY COLLEGE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA TRUSTEES (CCCT) 2017 ACCT CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENT PACKET About the Community College League of California Trustees (CCCT) The Community College League of California (the “League”) is a nonprofit public benefit organization whose voluntary membership consists of the 72 local community college districts in California. Within the “League” are two main policy boards including the California Community College Trustees (CCCT) which consists of 21 members elected statewide by the 72 California district governing boards and a student member elected by the student trustees. With the primary goal of promoting student access and success, CCCT encourages trustee engagement in local, state and national advocacy efforts including involvement in the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Board of Directors and Committees. The ACCT represents more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical and junior colleges in the United States, and is a major voice of community college trustees to the Administration, Congress and the Departments of Education and Labor, among others. Considering one out of five community college students in the nation attends a California community college, promoting access and success nationally for the state’s diverse student population is crucial. 2017 ACCT Positions Open for Endorsement Endorsements are being considered for the following three (3) ACCT positions up for election at the 2017 Leadership Congress (only one candidate will be endorsed for each position): 1) Director-At-Large 2) Regional Director (Pacific Region) 3) Committee Member for Diversity Committee (Pacific Region) The CCCT also encourages Associate Membership in the following committees: Finance and Audit Committee Governance and Bylaws Committee Member Communications and Education Committee Public Policy Committee Nominating Committee Page 1 of 4 Time/Travel Commitments Board of Directors The ACCT Board of Directors meets three (3) times a year. Board members are required to attend these three meetings: Prior to the Community College National Summit in Washington, D.C. A day or two before the Annual Leadership Congress (locations vary) During the Summer Board Retreat (locations vary) In addition, board work may also be done via telephone, e-mail and postal mail. Diversity and other Committees Committees meet twice a year. Committee members are required to attend: Prior to the Community College National Summit in Washington, D.C. Reporting Commitment If elected to the ACCT Board or Diversity Committee, CCCT endorsed members are required to provide a written report prior to each CCCT board meeting summarizing their activities and important issues. Endorsement Committee The Endorsement Committee consists of members of the CCCT Board’s ACCT SubCommittee. The Endorsement Committee is approved and empowered by the CCCT Board to select the individuals proposed for endorsement. Confirmation of endorsements for each of the 2017 ACCT election positions will be voted on by the 21 member CCCT Board present during its scheduled June 16-17, 2017 meeting. The Board reserves the right to accept all or part of any endorsement recommendation. The Process All candidates must email Agnes Lupa ([email protected]) a completed candidate packet by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017. The candidate packet includes the following: Part I: Candidate Information Form Part II: Endorsement questionnaire Page 2 of 4 Candidates Interviews Candidate interviews will be held at the Lake Tahoe Trustees Conference on May 4, 2017. If a candidate is unable to attend in person, a phone interview will be scheduled. The Endorsement Committee will convene and select a slate of endorsed candidates per position. The CCCT Board will vote to approve proposed candidate endorsements at the June 17-18 meeting. All applicants will be notified of endorsement decisions by Monday, June 19, 2016. Endorsement Criteria/Considerations The Endorsement Committee member will be evaluating the candidates based on answers to the enclosed required endorsement questionnaire. In addition, each candidate will be evaluated on his/her demonstrated commitment and plan to represent and advocate on behalf of California community colleges.
