2018 Bat Rule Changes and
What it Means for YOU
STANDARD CHANGE NOTIFICATION
Effective January 1, 2018 – Little League Baseball, Pony Baseball, Dixie, Babe
Ruth, AABC, and JBO Baseball
will be governed under one umbrella bat standard of USA Baseball (USABB).
USABB will mandate a new BBCOR “wood like” standard
as well as allow the use of 2 5/8” barrels for all age levels and leagues.

Why the Change to a Wood like Standard
USA Baseball’s national member organizations believe that a wood-like performance standard will best provide for the long-term integrity of the game.
How Does This New Bat Rule Effect You
The rule change does not take effect until January 1, 2018 so your current bat is
still legal. This does affect your choice of a bat if you choose to buy a new bat in
2017 (It will not be legal in 2018).
