Shannon Family Resource Centre (Shannon FRC) Project title: Ethnic Minority Health in Ireland – Advancing the evidence base to address health inequities Purpose of project: In this research, we will work in partnership with travellers and migrants to generate knowledge and action to address avoidable health differences between majority and minority ethnic communities. We will investigate and support the implementation of an ethnic identifier in primary care settings with a view to having an effective and acceptable system for service providers and service users for routine and on-going data collection about ethnicity. Job Description: Community Liaison worker x 2 positions Duration: April/May 2017 – December 2019 Key responsibilities: Focus specifically on coordinating the recruitment and involvement of migrants and Travellers in fieldwork i.e., sharing information about the research in their local migrant and traveller communities; helping to identify appropriate ways to generate data with migrants and travellers using the primary care services Reporting and participation in the research steering committee Linking with and accountable to the development worker Identify, interview and recruit community research field workers with development worker and Shannon FRC Contribute to data collection and analysis Supporting co-ordination and administration Promoting the research and possible research outcomes through the relevant communities. Working with Community Development Worker, Shannon FRC, UL research Coordinator and other relevant agencies to identify interviewees. Attending the research training Mentoring and supporting community researchers Promote the research and possible research outcomes through the communities. Support feedback on the completed research to the relevant communities and local agencies. Identifying and addressing potential conflict Participate in planning, review and evaluation General Work closely with the project worker tasked with being the link person in Shannon FRC for this research project Work with the Community Development Worker to support the progress of work activity Relevant Skills and experience Essential: Good interpersonal skills Capacity to work in partnership Ability to work with diversity Ability to work to deadlines Communication skills working with the public and with professional bodies. Ability to build links Full clean driver’s licence Desirable: Previous research experience with migrants/ethnic minorities, ideally in the field of health Other Relevant Information Hours - 162 hours over 32 months Flexibility: working hours will be distributed according to project needs between 2017 and 2019. Travel within Ireland may be required. Accountability: The Community Liaison Worker will be responsible to the Community Development Worker
