Single-Touch monitors are the original version of Touchscreens that emulates a mouse-click. Multi-Touch monitors are similar to the touchscreens found in smartphones and tablets and provide support for gestures as well as mouse clicks. As of the date this article was revised, specific Single-Touch monitors from ELO(1), and MicroTouch are supported by Wyse ThinOS and Xenith products. Please review the Supported Touch Technologies section at the end of this document for more details. NOTE: Multi-Touch monitor support is limited to the WES7P, WE8S and WIE10 thin clients. AccuTouch will also work, but IntelliTouch is preferred. Make sure you test your monitor functionality BEFORE you do a massive deployment. (1) You can find Information on ELO monitors at http://www.elotouch.com/Products/LCDs/compare.asp ABOUT LINUX THIN CLIENT NOT included by default on Suse Linux thin clients is touch monitor support. ELO Single-touch monitor may be added with SUSE Firmware version 11 SP2 and above by adding the “Optional” ELO add-on “elo_usb-3.5-0.3.rpm” to the thin client. Please review the Release Notes for your specific firmware release. Page 3 of 6 SEN- Touch Monitor Support V2 - KB23656.docx Dell Wyse Supported Touch Technologies Here is my info regarding touch screens. In short, you will get the best compatibility using an ELO Touch Solutions model with either IntelliTouch or AccuTouch touch controllers. ABOUT ELO TOUCH SCREENS This is a nice page from ELO illustrating the different models and touch controllers available. http://www.elotouch.com/Products/LCDs/compare.asp ELO has models that support multiple touch controllers. Pay attention to the exact Part Number of that model. Not all models have multiple touch controllers inside. ABOUT DELL TOUCH SCREENS Work only with Windows-based thin clients, in particular WES7P, WE8S and Windows 10 IoT. They can work with full Windows 7 Pro or Enterprise, Windows 8 or Windows 10. If the end user wants multi-touch capability – think pinch/zoom on your tablet/smartphone, that is only available on a Windows-based endpoints, and even so the virtualization broker (Microsoft, Citrix, VMware View, vWorkspace) might not support multi-touch all the way from the endpoint to the virtual session. Should a Wyse (non-Windows) thin client recognize a multi-touch monitor, it will function only as a single-touch monitor. Select Dell touch monitors have worked with non-Windows Wyse endpoints in the past. Dell touch-monitors are built using many different touch controllers, so consistency on compatibility cannot be guaranteed. ABOUT TOUCH SUPPORT ON WYSE THINOS / XENITH / LINUX When using non-Windows thin clients Dell touch screen monitors MAY work but to none have been officially tested/endorsed which is why ELO touch screens are recommend. o Other touch screens may work (3Mtm Microtouch and FastPoint touch monitors are no longer available but still supported) The specific ELO monitor model is important but the critical piece is the specific touch controller(s) inside that monitor, since not all touch controllers are the same. Page 4 of 6 SEN- Touch Monitor Support V2 - KB23656.docx Dell Wyse o If you cannot find what touch controller used in the monitor, assume it will not be compatible with your thin client. For Wyse ThinOS / Xenith / Linux based thin clients you need to choose an ELO monitor that uses an IntelliTouch (Capacitive or PCAP) touch controller. AccuTouch (Resistive touch) will also work but IntelliTouch is preferred. Wyse ThinOS / Xenith / Linux thin and zero clients only support single-touch monitors The table below shows the results of a simple, unofficial test that one of our SE’s did in 2013 with several ELO monitors. 1523L iTouch Plus/IntelliTouch Plus 1515L AccuTouch 1515L IntelliTouch ThinOS No Yes Yes Ubuntu Linux No Yes Yes SUSE Linux SP2 with ELO calibration addon No Yes Yes WES7 incl.
