Andrew School Athletics Program

Andrew School Athletics Program
Re: Athletics Program Sponsorship
To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Cory Kokotailo and I am the Athletic Director at Andrew School. I am in
my third year teaching in Andrew and during this time have become very accustomed to
the great people of this community. I would like to take the opportunity to partner up
with businesses and people of the community to aid in the further development of the
athletics program at Andrew School. At Andrew School we are developing a culture of
sport among the student body. We now have teams in volleyball, basketball, badminton,
curling, golf and track and field. This year alone in Junior High we had over 90% of our
students involved in Junior High sports teams. This in itself is quite an accomplishment.
Having a large athletic program leads to additional expenses, which have been funded
through team fees, student council, parent council and our fundraising efforts of the
athletic program. The program in the past has had fundraising success through the
Miracle Hockey Game, the Alberta highway cleanup and various lunchtime sales.
Participation in the Alberta Highway Clean Up program, cleaning last year nearly 80 km
of roadway around Andrew, raised us over $4000.
To compliment the work done by student athletes and the contributions of Parent and
Student councils, we would like to ask the community members and businesses for
support of our school athletic program. Having a fully functional school athletic program
has many benefits to the entire community. Students are kept busy with the opportunity
to compete weekly in league games, have travel opportunities for tournaments and
develop an atmosphere that is only possible through the cohesion that being on a team
brings. This in turn creates a higher standard of living for the community as children
who engage in physical activity tend to be happier and more successful in all aspects of
their lives. A strong athletic program can only improve the well being of the students of
the school, and in turn improve the overall academic performance of students and raise
the school spirit as well.
Sport is a coping mechanism for students, from stresses of class, and from stresses of
peers. Sport is a release of everything else to focus on the task at hand, or team goal.
Sports mature children and create stronger learners. Students use athletics as a
motivational tool, to keep grades up so they may continue playing on the school teams,
and to come to school every day for practices or games or just to be with their teammates
in the hallways. Sports increase school attendance. Participating in athletics also aids in
the development of self-confidence and determination in life as well as creating larger
social circles both within their own school and with other schools that we compete
against. The ability to accept defeat and to win graciously is an aspect of a quality athlete
and helps to develop character in the child, all which are accomplished greatly through
the participation in school athletic programs.
I look forward to your response and have great hopes for the future of Andrew School, its
students, past, present and future, and for the community as a whole. A community with
a strong school program will always develop strong community ties and values affecting
every person who comes in contact with it. I thank you for your time and consideration
of sponsoring our athletic program.
Yours in Education and Athletics,
Mr. Cory Kokotailo, B.Ed.
