KEY: Digitizing a Venn Diagram
1. Label and digitize the following Venn Diagram.

2. Construct a three-circle digital Venn Diagram to solve the problem and
answer the questions.
At a certain summer camp, electronics are not allowed. However, a total of 41
campers brought a cell phone. 37 brought a game system, and 20 brought a tablet.
Eighteen brought a cell phone and a game system, 16 brought a cell phone and a
tablet, and 6 brought a game system and a tablet. Six brought all three of these
items. Ninety followed the rules, and brought none of these items.
a. How many brought a cell phone and a game system? 18
=a2*b2*d2 Then copy down to column E, then sum column E
b.
How many brought a cell phone or a game system? 60
=(a2 + b2>=1)*d2 Then copy down, etc.
c. How many brought no more than one item? 126
=(a2+b2+c2<=1)*d2 Then copy down, etc.
d. Write Excel commands to answer a, b, c above. HINT: you many need to use
addition, multiplication and SUM commands See answers above.

KEY: Solving Problems with Digitized Venn Diagrams
3. Use the following digitized 4-circle Venn to answer the questions:
a. How many total items have attribute A? 46
b. How many total items have attribute A and D? 23
c. How many total items have attribute A or D? 69
d. How many total items have attribute A, B, or C? 74
e. How many total items have attribute A or B, but NOT C

4. Write EXCEL commands to use the following digitized 4-circle Venn to answer the
questions:
f. How many total items have attribute A? =a3*e3
g. How many total items have attribute A and D? =(a3*d3*e3)
h. How many total items have attribute A or D? =(a3+d3>=1)*e3
i.
How many total items have attribute A, B, or C? =(a3+b3+c3>=1)*e3
j.
How many total items have attribute A or B, but NOT C?
=((a3+b3>=1)*(1-c3))*e3
I am sure there are other equally or more elegant or efficient ways to do these.
