Bowler’s Notes May 2017 Pennants. Congratulations Bowral Bowling Club grade 3 Section 1 pennant winners. Well done to the Grade 3 player who have won their section of the competition. At the last round, on Saturday 6th May, Bowral played the team which was lying second in the competition, Campbelltown City. Points were close, with Bowral requiring an overall win to secure the top spot. In a closely fought game Bowral managed to win by seven shots and an 8-2 score, enough to top the Pennant ladder. Next step is the Zone playoff. On Sunday 27th May, Bowral will travel to Penrith Bowling Club to play Windsor Bowling Club, the winner of Section 2. Start time is 1.00pm. Best of luck to the Bowral Team. In Grade 6, Section3, the final round was on Saturday 13th May. The table was tight, with statistically any of four teams could win. However, the two top teams were Campbelltown and Bowral who played each other in the final round at Bowral. The winner of this game being the likely Section winner. That is how it happened, but unfortunately it was Campbelltown who won by three shots to clinch the title. The loss saw Bowral slip to third, still a fine effort, congratulations to all the players. Grade 7 Section 3 team also played their final match on the 13th May. Camden3 side that already sealed victory in this division, so the game against Picton could not affect the result. A much strengthened Picton team won 58-48 with Bowral finishing a creditable third on the ladder. Once again, thanks to all the bowlers who made the effort to be available during the Pennant season. A good year for Bowral, fielding three teams with excellent results. Club Championships 2017. The Club Championship Pairs has been completed with a great win to Mick Armstrong and Gary Brown. They defeated Josh Woodcock and Dugald Braithwaite in an excellent final. Josh and Dugald were the early leaders, but Mick and Gary fought back to take a slender lead into the last end. Josh and Dugald required to two shot for another end to be played. With a couple of bowls remaining they held three shot, until a great trail by Gary Brown saw the game swing back into the hands of Mick and Gary. Congratulations to both teams. Club Championship Triples is well under way with one finalist waiting for two matches to be played from the top half of the draw. These matches will be played on Sunday 21st May with the final subject to various zone and pennant games. The draw is on the board for the Minor Pairs and entries are open for the Handicap Pairs. Remember these are single entries with the teams drawn from the hat. Zone Events. In the Over 65 Pairs the Bowral team of Noel Fraser and Jim Neely reached the semi Final. In another nail biting game the Bowral pair went into the last end with a slim lead. Holding shots, and all contingencies seemingly covered the opponents bowl just clipped the jack and delivered them an unlikely win. A great effort by Noel and Jim. The Zone Over 65 Singles entries are closed with six Bowral participants. The Zone has not yet posted the draw. While I am informed some richer clubs cover the entry fee for their members in these events, this is not the case with Bowral bowling Club. The Zone bills Bowral B C at the end of each month for these fees. Bowral Bowling Club will collect the fees from each player entered in order to cover these costs. Do not enter any Zone event if you are not willing to pay your entry fee. Thanks to the members who turned up for the working Bee. Friday 5 May at 2.30pm was the scheduled day for painting th the rink marker knobs. With the grounds looking spick and span, painting the tops of the rink markers white was another step in the overall look of the Club. Thirteen members turned up, which was a great turn up, and allowed a production line to be set up with marker collectors, sandpaperers, painters and marker returners all working together to paint 96 rink markers in under two hours. Thanks everyone, a great effort and shows how many hands can make light work. Moss Vale Motor Group Challenge. Notice of this new event has been posted on the notice board.
