UCD_ENG41640 10 In this module, you will consider the various ways in which Joyce has been construed as a writer and viewed alternatively as an avant-garde modernist, international, European, or Irish author. Concentrating on a close reading of a number of key episodes of Ulysses, the different critical approaches to interpreting this text will be considered including those drawing on historicist, materialist, postcolonial and feminist theory. You will consider the degree to which Ulysses problematises traditional notions of character and plot. You will examine Joyce's increasing use of radical style to disrupt our presuppositions about narrative. Not Specified Please see partner website for further details
