Talk to my child about their school day. Have high expectations for my child’s learning and behavior, holding my child accountable for his/her actions. Stay aware of my child’s learning development, style and success. Help my child develop a homework schedule that they can follow, encouraging homework completion. Participate in parent-teacher conferences, PTA meetings and workshops whenever possible in order to help my child learn. See that my child is punctual and attends school every day according to the district’s new policy. Encourage my child to read for at least 20 minutes every day. (My child can read aloud, be read to, read to himself/herself, or read to brothers and sisters.) Communicate openly with teachers or staff when I am concerned or have a question about my child’s success. Check my child’s folder or planner daily for home/school communication. Ensure my child is well rested and ready for the school day. Provide a quiet, well lit place for studying. Volunteer in my child’s class or school when possible. School / Teacher Responsibilities Provide leadership, and demonstrate a positive attitude about school. Provide a safe, welcoming environment for students and families. Help parents identify ways to help their children learn to read, write and develop math skills. Communicate to, and provide parents and families with resources, materials and workshops. Believe all students can achieve success. Support Title I requirements to develop a partnership with families. Create opportunities and encourage families to be involved with school decisions. Set high standards and implement effective programs in all subject areas to meet individual needs. Educate students, teachers, families and school staff about the importance of daily reading and the partnership approach of the compact. Report on reading and math performance and create programs to encourage achievement in these areas. Assist families with necessary accommodations to meet various literacy levels and communication needs.
