Deer Creek Intermediate Intramural Sports Program Guidelines What is the Intramural Sports Program? The Deer Creek Intermediate Intramural Sports Program is an opportunity for students to participate in various physical and social activities to further develop spatial and social skills as well as general fitness. The program will provide students with activities that will allow all students involved to be challenged while allowing for success of the students. What are the goals of the Intramural Sports Program? Enjoy participation and personal success Strive for personal bests, make commitments, set goals, and follow through with responsibilities Develop social and physical skills Increase overall health and fitness Who is eligible to participate in the Intramural Sports Program? All students must meet the following requirements to be eligible to participate: -Be enrolled at Deer Creek Intermediate School -Pay the activity fee -Commit to the program and the rules outlined Equity in Intramurals All participants regardless of ability, gender, or ethnicity will have equal access to the program, facilities, equipment, leadership roles, and participation time. What are the guidelines for participation during unfavorable weather conditions? It is recommended that students be advised in advance to wear appropriate clothing during periods of extreme cold or extreme hot weather. Students will not be required to participate inappropriate clothing under extreme conditions. Advanced planning and notification of students is the key to a successful outdoor program. Parents/guardians should plan ahead and make sure that the participants are properly clothed. Due to the extreme weather that can occur, the director must use his/her discretion when conducting activities outdoors. When lightning and/or thunder occur during an outdoor activity, the activity must be suspended immediately. Players, sponsors and officials must seek shelter. Spectators must be directed to leave. Sponsors must have a plan for seeking shelter and/or expedient departure in case of lightning/thunder or other severe inclement weather. The principal, director and/or Intramural Coordinator will have the final authority to delay or postpone activities due to weather issues. What are the roles of intramural Coordinator, Coaches & Monitors? Intramural Coordinator (Current DCIS Physical Education Teacher) will coordinate activities; collect waiver forms and activity fees; deposit activity fees; purchase and distribute shirts for running club; supervise intramurals activities, participants, coaches and monitors. Coordinate and supervise high school student volunteers as needed. Intramural Coaches & Monitors: Various Deer Creek Intermediate Teachers as needed. They will help to supervise, coach and ref intramural activities as needed. How will the intramurals be funded? Intramurals will be funded through the current stipend for the coordinator and an activity fee that will be assessed to the participants. The purpose of intramurals is to provide students with the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational activities after school throughout the school year. The purpose of this program is to provide students with additional opportunities to make new friends and demonstrate such qualities as sportsmanship, cooperation and leadership in a supervised and structured environment. Students wishing to participate must turn in the “Sign-up & Waiver” form and activity fee to the Deer Creek Intramural Coordinator. Students will meet in the Deer Creek Intermediate Large Gym. Students will not be allowed in the locker rooms during intramurals. If it is necessary for a student to change clothes, he or she may do so in the restrooms in the gym lobby. Students are not required to change for intramurals but are asked to wear gym shoes. Appropriate behavior will be expected of all intramural participants and students may be removed from the program if poor behavior becomes a recurring problem. Our intramural staff hopes that you will encourage your child to participate frequently in the intramural program, as we feel that it is the perfect chance for our students to make friends, work on skills, and get additional fitness.
