1st XI defeat 8-man Haslingfield to maintain 100% record Wilbraham’s CC first team defeated 8 man Haslingfield by 75 runs to continue a fine start to the season. Having won the toss and being unaware of the oppositions lack of players Wilbrahams elected to bat first on a warm afternoon. Things started well with Simon Plumb and Matthew Morley putting on 53 for the first wicket before Plumb was clean bowled for 27. Morley held the innings together scoring 103 including 11 boundaries and was assisted further by contributions of 14 from David Brown, 28 from George Moore and an undefeated 18 from Toby Tippen. The Wilbrahams innings concluded on 213 for the loss of 7 wickets which included 3 that fell in the final over. Haslingfield’s reply started well for Wilbraham with Piaras Collins claiming the wicket of the opening batsman for a duck, largely thanks to an excellent catch from Sam Charman at point. Haslingfield briefly threatened to claim an unlikely victory with Ashley Artaman and Lee Borcoski putting the fielding side under pressure, but Artaman fell for 39 when caught by Simon Plumb off the bowling of Sam Charman for 39 and Borcoski soon followed him back to the pavilion having hauled out to the safe hands of skipper David Brown off the bowling of Martin Potter for 52. The Haslingfield innings never recovered from this position as Charman and Potter continued to take wickets, Charman finishing with figures of 3-20 and Potter 3-37, as Haslingfield were dismissed for 138. Another solid victory for the 1st XI but in truth we probably got away with one on the day, having finished 30 runs short of par with the bat and some wayward bowling and fielding at times that the opposition failed to punish.
