YEAR 6 GRADUATION EVENING MONDAY, 8 TH DECEMBER Last

Newsletter Number 37
15th December 2014
Dear Parents, Students and
Cheltenham Primary School
Friends
of
Our annual Carols Evening on Monday night this
week was well attended. It was lovely to see so
many families enjoy a relaxed evening on our
Synthi-Grass, while our children entertained us
with traditional and modern Christmas songs.
Last week’s Graduation was another major
highlight. Our Year 6 students, teachers, parents
and extended family came together at
Sandringham Secondary College, to mark the
milestone of the end of Primary Schooling for 48
children. An interlude of singing and instrumental
pieces, among speeches by our School Captains;
Meaghan and Matthew, School Council President;
Geoff Geist, myself and Year 6 Teachers; Arthur
Chronopoulos and Sonia Garbon-Uhe, culminated
with the presentation of 11 prestigious Awards to
students for outstanding achievement in various
areas. Congratulations to the recipients, who are
listed in this Orchid.
I would like to wish all our family as Merry
Christmas and hope that you take the opportunity
to enjoy family and friends over the summer
holiday break.
I look forward to another year of support from
parents and the school community which ensures
Cheltenham Primary School continues to deliver
outstanding educational outcomes for all students.

REPORTS
End of Year reports have been distributed and
reports of those children not in attendance have
been posted. Thank you to the teachers who
prepared reports that require many, many hours of
work providing parents with comprehensive
information about student progress.
Special
thanks to my Assistant Principal, Bronwyn
Morgan, who coordinated this complex task,
supported also by our Technician, Haidong Lu.
CAROLS AND STAGING
Our ‘Best Ever’ Carols evening can be attributed
to the generous donation of time and equipment
given by the Gellatly family, Michelle and Linton.
Their business, SCENE CHANGE, has again,
kindly supported us by setting up a very
professional stage and sound system that elevated
the children – physically and in voice, to the huge
crowd of family and friends. Cheltenham Primary
School are happy to recommend Scene Change for
any upcoming events you may be planning at your
work place. Linton can be contacted on 9939
4434.
Confidence is the You Can Do It foundation for
this term. It means knowing that you will be
successful and believing in yourself. It means not
being afraid to make mistakes or to try something
new. It means looking and sounding confident.
These students have won YCDI awards this
week!

SCHOOL CAPTAIN SPEECH – Meaghan Sheehan & Matthew Nibbs
Meaghan: Good evening, Matthew and I would like to welcome our Principal, Mrs.
McIntosh, our Assistant Principal, Ms. Morgan, our School Council President, Geoff Geist,
distinguished guests, teachers, students, friends and families to Year 6 Graduation.
Matthew: On behalf of Year 6 we would like to say that we have enjoyed all our education
at Cheltenham Primary School. For many of us it has been a seven year experience. We are
very sad to leave. But our time has come to go off to secondary school where even though we
will make new friends and memories, we will always treasure the memories and the special
moments we have had at Cheltenham Primary.
Meaghan: For many of us the highlights of this year have been performing at our production,
‘Good Evening And Welcome To Television And All That Jazz’. We also had an amazing
time at Roses Gap Camp, with the Year 5s. We won’t forget the wonderful moments shared
with our teachers and friends at Cheltenham.
Matthew: Some of the exciting changes we have seen at Cheltenham have included:
 Our BER building
 The introduction of iPads and other technologies like Interactive Whiteboards and
notebooks
 Science classroom
 New playgrounds
 Choice of different languages
 Our chickens!
Meaghan: Next year our school will be 160 years old. We cannot help wondering what the
school would be like if we were to come back in another 7 years when some of us will be 18
or 19. How will CPS continue to grow and change?
Matthew: At this time we would like to thank our amazing teachers from Prep to Year 6 and
our specialist teachers who have always been there for us, and have organized everything for
us. They definitely deserve a round of applause.
We would also like to thank the school for giving us the privilege of being your 2014 School
Captains.
Meaghan: Finally, we’d like to thank you, our parents and families, for supporting us and
being here tonight. Please enjoy yourselves and have an exciting and memorable night in
celebration of the graduate class of 2014. Thank you.
