The European Materials Modelling Council is a community driven bottom-up action to • connect • coordinate and • enlarge all existing material modelling activities and stakeholders in Europe. 3 ENF 2017, 21-23 June 2017, Valletta, Malta EMMC The European Materials Modelling Council EMMC Objectives EMMC will pursue the following overarching objectives in order to establish and strengthen the underpinning foundations of materials modelling in Europe and bridge the gap between academic innovation and industrial application. Five main objectives: ➢ Enhance the interaction and collaboration between all stakeholders engaged in different types of materials modelling, including modellers, software owners, translators and manufacturers. ➢ Facilitate integrated materials modelling in Europe building on strong and coherent foundations. ➢ Coordinate and support actors and mechanisms that enable rapid transfer of materials modelling from academic innovation to the end users and potential beneficiaries in industry. ➢ Achieve greater awareness and uptake of materials modelling in industry, in particular SMEs. ➢ Elaborate Roadmaps that (i) identify major obstacles to widening the use of materials modelling in European industry and (ii) elaborate strategies to overcome them. 4 ENF 2017, 21-23 June 2017, Valletta, Malta EMMC The European Materials Modelling Council The overall approach The EMMC has identified a number of core activities that are vital to increase the industrial exploitation of materials modelling in Europe. These activities are structured into three main pillars on which the advancement of European Industry rests on: • • • Underpinning Foundations: Stronger, more robust, better validated and more versatile materials modelling foundations. Enabling Transfer Platform: Designing the systems and mechanisms to transfer materials modelling to a range of industries. Integrated Materials Development: Facilitating a more holistic materials development targeted at achieving tangible impact in different industrial applications. The main approach of the EMMC is to establish and enforce these actions by undertaking coordination and support actions. 5 ENF 2017, 21-23 June 2017, Valletta, Malta EMMC The European Materials Modelling Council Industrial Advisory Board Industrial Advisory Board has the role to ensure the industrial relevance of the EMMC activities. Industrial Advisory Board has the task to evaluate and endorse the EMMC Roadmap for Materials that outlines a strategic future materials modelling policy for Europe.
